For the first time since 2001, the Iowa State women's basketball team is on top of the Big 12 Conference after defeating Texas 61-51 in the conference championship game on Sunday. It is the third time the team has won the conference tournament.It was a vintage performance from Ashley Joens who had 28 points and 10 rebounds in the win earning her the tournament MVP award.The Cyclones who entered the tournament as the three seed had to knock off the top two teams in back-to-back days in order to win the title.Iowa State was projected as a 5-seed for the NCAA tournament entering Championship Sunday.
