In July, Chip and Joanna Gaines' fifth child came into the world. Since his arrival, ' parents, and "Fixer Upper" fanatics everywhere have all fallen in love with the little boy. He even has some ! But despite the joy her newborn has brought her, Joanna is now revealing that welcoming a baby at 40 has had its differences from her previous pregnancies.
Joanna has already opened up about the shock that came when she found out she was expecting, and now she's delving a little bit deeper. In the new fall issue of her and Chip’s magazine, "," the famous designer discussed how she handled her happy surprise.
As reports, Joanna laughed when she first heard the term "geriatric pregnancy," but then realized "that's actually what it’s called at my age."
"I am 40 and pregnancy this time was different. I have always really enjoyed being pregnant — I tend to feel my best during those nine months," she wrote. "This time I felt a little more worn out than usual."
Joanna and Chip had already decided to end their HGTV show, "," before they found out about Crew, but balancing their multiple businesses with a baby on the way still proved to be a challenge. The result? They finally had to take it easy.
"It’s sweet how, even in the most unpredictable ways, we’re given exactly what we need for that exact moment in time," she reflected. "It wasn’t something I could have anticipated. But being pregnant and 'forced' to slow down has been a gift."
Joanna said she feels like "a first-time mom all over again," as her youngest daughter, Emmie Kay, was born eight years ago. But she also noted that experience has offered her a fresh perspective.
"I don’t know if it’s because I’m a little older, but this time around I am more comfortable in my own skin, sure that I can do this," she said. "Confident that I was made for this very thing in this very season."
