'It gives me a purpose': Senior companionship program fosters friendship and laughter
No matter the weather, Kitty Gee makes sure she visits Wanetta Nurse every week.
Knocking on her door, 88-year-old Kitty brought over some candies she promised last time.
The two got comfortable on the couch and started chatting.
Kitty's a part of a senior companionship program. For the past year and a half, she visits seniors in her area who live on their own and have a tendency to get lonely.
Wanetta has a bothersome back and legs, which keep her from getting out of the house too often. She cherishes each visit.
Kitty does, too.
"I just love it, because it gives me a purpose to get up in the morning and move along," Kitty said. "And if I can bring somebody else a little bit of joy, companionship, I’m for it."
