ISU freshman holds bizarre Guinness world record
Among all the former high school athletes on the Iowa State University rec fields, one holds a world record.
Austin Keller, who earlier this year as a senior at Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom Jr-Sr High School got into the Guinness Book of World Records in an obscure category.
He's the fastest 20-meter crab walker in the world.
"I don't feel much different," the ISU freshman said. "I just think it's cool when someone says tell us interesting fact about you, and I say I'm a Guinness world record holder and they're thinking, what is it? For what? And I'm like - crabwalk! And they're just like what?"
The previous fastest time for crab walking 65 feet had been held by a Japanese man since 2012. Without any training, Keller beat the old record by over a second. He followed the strict guidelines Guinness requires for written and video verification, and the certificate from Guinness arrived this month.
"You want to keep your chest high, look forward, and move your hands and feet as fast as you can," Keller said.
He may look like a spastic penguin, but Austin was a five-sport athlete in high school. He loves the competition, and he loved reading the Guinness Book of World Records in the school library, dreaming of one day seeing his name in any category.
"There are a lot of stupid records out there, and this might be No. 1," he laughed.
