'I don't think I want to be out in that': Grocery stores slammed ahead of winter storm
NEWS. IOWA’S NEWS LEADER. OPHELIA. THANK YOU. A GROCERY STORES WERE PACKED WITH PEOPLE LOADING UP ON THE ESSENTIALS BEFORE THE STORM HIT. vlog’S PEPPER PAPURA TALKED WITH SHOPPERS ABOUT HOW THEY’RE GEARING UP FOR ROUND TWO. YOU’RE NOT GOING TO WANT TO GET STUCK OUT IN THE WEATHER. WE’RE ABOUT TO HAVE, SO IT’S TIME TO PREP BEFORE THE STORM. IT’S PRETTY CRAZY OUT THERE. IT TOOK ME PROBABLY ABOUT TEN MINUTES TO EVEN GET INTO THE LOT. GROCERY STORES ACROSS THE STATE. ANY THING BUT CALM BEFORE A SNOW STORM. JUST A FEW THINGS. JUST BEFORE EVERYTHING HAPPENS AND APPARENTLY EVERYBODY ELSE IS DOING IT TOO. WE’VE SEEN A 100% INCREASE IN CUSTOMER COUNT TODAY BECAUSE THE NEXT FEW DAYS SOUNDS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE PRETTY BAD. SO EVERYONE’S GRABBING WHAT THEY NEED WHILE THEY STILL CARE. MILK, BREAD. EGGS. TOILET PAPER. WATER. CUSTOMERS ARE GETTING ABOUT EVERYTHING TONIGHT TO BE PREPARED TO BE SNOWED IN FOR THE NEXT NEXT TWO DAYS MAYBE. AND STOCKING UP TO FEED THE EXTRA MOUTHS THAT WILL BE HOME. I’M SUPPOSED TO BE IN SCHOOL AND I’M SUPPOSED TO BE IN SCHOOL TOMORROW, BUT THERE’S TOO MUCH SNOW, SO NOT RIGHT NOW. AND IT’S NOT JUST FOOD THAT’S IN DEMAND, PICKING UP PRESCRIPTIONS IF THEY’RE GOING TO BE SNOWED IN FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AND MAKING SURE THAT THEY HAVE ALL THEIR MEDICATIONS READY. SO PHARMACIES DEFINITELY SEEN A BUSY A BUSY SPURT TODAY SO THAT WHEN THE SNOW HITS, THERE’S ONE LESS THING TO WORRY ABOUT. THEY’RE SAYING IT IS GOING TO BE JUST THE SNOW, BUT WE’RE GOING TO GO INTO NEGATIVE DIGITS FOR ABOUT A WEEK. AND I DON’T THINK I WANT TO BE OUT IN THAT. IN WAUKEE, PEPPER PURPUR

'I don't think I want to be out in that': Grocery stores slammed ahead of winter storm
Iowans did what Iowans do before snowstorms Thursday night and flocked to metro grocery stores. Heavy snow is expected to hit overnight across much of the state and continue Friday, leaving some areas with another foot just days after a similar storm. A blizzard warning goes into effect at 10 a.m. Friday and lasts through 6 p.m. Saturday. Northwest winds gusting up to 45 mph will make visibility one-quarter of a mile or less in some areas. Then, over the weekend and into next week, sub-zero temperatures. Before all that happens, people shopped for essentials — bread, milk, eggs and toilet paper. The Hy-vee store in Waukee reported at least double its average customer count Thursday. "They're saying it isn't going to be just the snow, but we're going to go into negative digits for about a week, and I don't think I want to be out in that," a shopper at Hy-vee in Waukee said to vlog. People rushed to fill prescriptions, too."The pharmacy has definitely seen a busy spurt for today," Waukee Hy-vee store manager Courtney Brobst said.
