Iowa weather: Relief is ahead after even more heat

Parts of Iowa have a chance for storms before cooler temperatures arrive.

PROOF OF DES MOINES RESIDENTS. LET’S CHECK IN NOW AGAIN WITH AN WE’VE GOT AT LEAST ONE MORE REALLY HOT DAY IN OUR FORECAST. YEAH, WE’VE GOT ANOTHER DAY OF THE MID MAYBE EVEN UPPER 90S FOR SOME NEIGHBORHOODS TOMORROW. TOD. AND THEN WE GET A REALLY NICE MUCH NEEDED COOLDOWN AS WE KICK START THE FIRST DAY OF THE STATE FAIR. SO THAT’S SOME GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE HEADED OUT THAT WAY. HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY INTO THE 90S. THIS AFTERNOON 96 OUR HIGH HERE IN DES MOINES 95 IN ANKENY. IT WAS A HOT ONE IN OSCEOLA. 92 FOR OSKALOOSA. LOW 90S OUT TOWARDS AUDUBON AND ATLANTIC TEMPERATURES. RIGHT NOW WE’RE TALKING UPPER 70S TO UPPER 80S ACROSS NORTHERN IOWA. A LITTLE BIT OF CLOUD COVER AND SOME RAIN COOLING US OFF UP TOWARDS SPENCER AND ALGONA. TEMPERATURES IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN IOWA BACK INTO THE MID 90S. HERE TODAY AND AGAIN FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES HAVE MADE THEIR WAY INTO THE FEELING LIKE THE LOWER TRIPLE DIGITS THIS AFTERNOON. AND EVENING. WE’RE SITTING AT 94 FOR THE AIR TEMPERATURE. FEELS LIKE 102 RIGHT NOW HERE IN DES MOINES. JUST A LITTLE BIT OF A WIND OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST, BUT IT’S JUST REALLY BLOWING THAT HOT AIR AROUND HERE FOR YOUR AFTERNOON AND EVENING. IT’S GOING TO TAKE US A WHILE TO COOL DOWN, AND WE REALLY DON’T COOL DOWN MUCH OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. NEXT 12 HOURS LOOK LIKE THIS. WE’LL END UP PROBABLY ONLY IN THE LOW 70S HERE IN THE CITY. BY DAYBREAK TOMORROW. AND THEN WE’LL SEE A MIX OF CLOUDS HERE THIS EVENING. I THINK THE EARLY EVENING HOURS, JUST SOME HIGH CLOUDS WILL STAY IN THE 80S, THOUGH I THINK AT LEAST THROUGH MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. HEAT INDEX AT ITS WORST THIS EVENING. NOTICE WHAT HAPPENS AS WE GET INTO THE DAY ON MONDAY. WE HEAT UP AGAIN, BUT WE’VE GOT FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES INTO THE MID 90S OR SO ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL IOWA. TOMORROW AFTERNOON. SO NOT QUITE AS HOT AS WHAT WE ARE SEEING TODAY, BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A HOT ONE THERE TO KICK START YOUR WORKWEEK. SHORT LIVED THOUGH. AGAIN, WE START TO COOL THINGS DOWN ON TUESDAY. REST OF TONIGHT THERE IS A CHANCE FOR A SHOWER OR STORM TO DEVELOP ACROSS NORTHERN AND NORTHEASTERN IOWA. HERE AS WE GO THROUGH EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. ONE OF THOSE COULD BE ON THE STRONGER SIDE, BUT I THINK THAT’S ABOUT IT. WE BEGIN OUR MONDAY WITH SUNSHINE, A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS HERE THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. AND THEN WE’VE GOT ANOTHER CHANCE FOR OVERNIGHT STORMS, MAINLY ACROSS NORTHERN IOWA. LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY. CLOUDS BUILD IN AND THEN WE’RE BACK TO A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SO TONIGHT IT’S A WARM ONE AGAIN. BEST CHANCE FOR RAIN IS GOING TO BE ACROSS NORTHERN AND ESPECIALLY NORTHEASTERN IOWA. I THINK CENTRAL SOUTHERN IOWA. WE’RE GOING TO BE DRY THIS EVENING. TEMPERATURES ONLY IN THE LOW 70S HERE TONIGHT. WE GET INTO THE DAY TOMORROW. WE’RE TALKING UPPER 80S TO LOW TO MID 90S ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA. MORE SUNSHINE, MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS. THERE. ANOTHER CHANCE FOR SOME STORMS. IT’S GOING TO BE MAINLY ACROSS NORTHEAST IOWA. HERE TOMORROW EVENING. THEN THE COOLDOWN GETS HERE ON TUESDAY. WE’RE TALKING TEMPERATURES WELL BELOW AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. HIGHS LIKELY ONLY IN THE UPPER 70S. BY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WILL STAY IN THE LOW 80S. RIGHT THROUG

Iowa weather: Relief is ahead after even more heat

Parts of Iowa have a chance for storms before cooler temperatures arrive.

Areas north of Hwy. 20 will end up on the other side of a boundary and only feel like low 90s.That boundary will be the focus of rain potential in the next 48 hours. Draped east-west across the northern half of Iowa, this mostly stationary front will be the pathway a few disturbances ride along and generate isolated storms. The first chance will be this evening, when a few spotty showers or thundershowers are possible north of Hwy. 30. Tomorrow, the front lifts farther north, so that by late Monday night the Iowa/Minnesota border area ends up as the most likely area for an overnight storm into early Tuesday. This front will finally be dragged southeast across Iowa Tuesday, and temperatures AND humidity levels will drop. We'll go from 90s feeling like low 100s Monday to highs of just 79-80° Tuesday. The cooler than average temperatures will persist the rest of this week.
