Iowa weather: Storm chance and a gloomier Sunday

After some Saturday night storms, colder air returns

ZANE FOR OUR FORECAST AND ZANE, I HAVE TO ASK YOU, IS TOMORROW LOOKING AS EASY BREEZY AS I HOPE IT WILL? IT WILL BE BREEZY. MARCUS, I DON’T KNOW IF THE BREEZY PART. OKAY. YEAH. A LITTLE BIT GRAYER. A LITTLE COOLER. A LITTLE DAMP. SO IF YOU WANT TO CALL THAT EASY, GREAT. IT’S NOT GOING TO BE LIKE TODAY THOUGH. OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW WE’RE SEEING MORE CLOUDS AND A LOT OF SPOTS AROUND THE STATE. IF YOU’RE UP IN PLACES LIKE ALGONA OR EVEN MARSHALLTOWN, ESPECIALLY ALGONA, YOU HAD CLOUDS PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE DAY AND YOU STILL DO NOW. GOT SOME DAMP WEATHER UP THAT DIRECTION. BASICALLY, IF YOU GO FROM ALGONA, LAMONI, YOU GOT ABOUT A 34 DEGREE TEMPERATURE SPREAD TODAY, UPPER 30S IN KOSSUTH COUNTY. YOU HEAD DOWN TOWARDS THE STATE LINE WITH MISSOURI, AND WE’RE STILL IN THE 70S. MORE CLOUDS HERE IN THE DES MOINES METRO. JUST IN THE PAST HOUR OR SO. YOU CAN SEE THOSE ON THE SATELLITE PICTURE, ALONG WITH THAT LITTLE BATCH OF SOME THUNDERSTORMS. NOW THAT’S MOVING THROUGH PARTS OF ADAIR AND GUTHRIE COUNTIES OFF TO THE NORTH AND EAST, ALONG WITH THOSE STORMS THAT HAVE BEEN ONGOING LONGER ACROSS NORTHWEST IOWA. HERE’S THE BIG PICTURE. WE MENTIONED THAT FRONT EARLIER. THAT SORT OF BISECTING IOWA SOUTHWEST TO NORTH AND EAST, THAT’S ATTACHED TO LOW PRESSURE OUT TOWARDS LINCOLN, NEBRASKA. THAT LOW WILL MOVE NORTHEAST HERE INTO CENTRAL IOWA LATER THIS EVENING. AHEAD OF IT, WE’RE EXPECTING A FEW MORE THUNDERSTORMS TO FORM OUT IN THIS DIRECTION, AND THAT THOSE ARE GOING TO BE POTENTIALLY SOME STRONGER ONES. WE’LL WATCH AS WE HEAD INTO TONIGHT SOUTH OF THE WHAT IS CURRENTLY A STATIONARY BOUNDARY AND EAST OF THE LOW PRESSURE. IT’S A LOW LEVEL, JUST LEVEL ONE RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER, BUT WOULDN’T RULE OUT A COUPLE OF CELLS THAT COULD PRODUCE SOME HAIL, SOME WIND, AND MAYBE EVEN A BRIEF TORNADO IS POSSIBLE. LET’S SHOW YOU HOW THIS WILL SORT OF EVOLVE. SO NOT DOING A GREAT JOB DEPICTING THE STORMS ONGOING RIGHT NOW IN WESTERN IOWA. BUT THOSE WILL HEAD OFF TO THE EAST AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, AND THEN WATCH AS WE HEAD FROM ABOUT EIGHT, 9 TO 10 TO 11:00, SORT OF A LITTLE RAGGED ZONE OF SOME SCATTERED STORMS. AGAIN, THESE AREN’T GOING TO BE WIDESPREAD STRONG CELLS, BUT 1 OR 2 COULD GET A LITTLE BIT MORE ORGANIZED AND MAYBE STRENGTHEN JUST ENOUGH TO CAUSE US AN ISSUE OR TWO. ONCE WE HEAD PAST MIDNIGHT, ESPECIALLY PAST 1 A.M., MOST OF US HERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STATE WILL BE DONE. THESE STORMS WILL BE OVER IN EASTERN IOWA, AND THEN THE REST OF THE NIGHT, WE’RE JUST LOOKING AT GRADUALLY INCREASING CLOUD COVER, SOME SORT OF FESTERING SHOWERS. AND THAT’S HOW WE’LL START OFF YOUR SUNDAY HOUR. WARM WINDS THAT HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE SOUTH. WELL, AT LEAST FOR MOST OF US, THE WARM WINDS THAT HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE SOUTH TODAY WILL SHIFT AROUND TO THE NORTH AND THE WEST, AND THAT’S WHERE WE START TO TALK ABOUT TEMPERATURES TOMORROW. NOTICE HERE 8:00 TOMORROW, 30S TO LOW 40S. AND THEN WE’LL GO TO LUNCHTIME. AND YOU WON’T REALLY SEE MUCH MOVEMENT AT ALL. WE’RE GOING TO KEEP THOSE TEMPERATURES PRETTY STEADY OR ACTUALLY START TO DROP OUR TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW, BECAUSE THOSE WINDS WILL BE COLD AND GUSTY. AND ACTUALLY YOU PROBABLY NEED TO CHOP OFF MAYBE 7 OR 8 DEGREES FOR THE ACTUAL WIND CHILL TOMORROW. NORTHWESTERLY GUSTS AROUND 25 TO 30, MAYBE 35MPH AT TIMES ON YOUR SUNDAY. SO SORT OF A RAW GRAY COOLER DAY COMING. OUR DIRECTION WOULDN’T RULE OUT IN NORTHERN IOWA EITHER. A COUPLE OF WET SNOWFLAKES, MAYBE SOME MINOR MINOR LITTLE ACCUMULATION ON SOME GRASSY SPOTS. TOMORROW DURING THE AFTERNOON TO EARLY EVENING AS WELL. I THINK THAT WILL BE MAINLY NORTH OF, LET’S SAY, ABOUT HIGHWAY 30. THEN ONCE WE HEAD TOWARDS LATE TOMORROW NIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING, SKIES START TO GET A LITTLE BIT CLEARER AND DRIER. WE’LL HAVE MORE SUNSHINE THEN TO START NEXT WORKWEEK FOR THE FINAL DAY OF MARCH. ONCE WE HEAD INTO APRIL, THEN OUR NEXT SYSTEM, THAT BRINGS US ANOTHER CHANCE OF SOME STORMS AS WE HEAD TOWARDS TUESDAY NIGHT AND INTO THE FIRST HALF OF WEDNESDAY THAT WILL DROP OUR TEMPERATURES, THEN BACK UP WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AS SKIES START TO CLEAR UPPER 60S. THEN WE’LL FALL BACK TO THE
