Iowa weather: Sunny and warm today with storm chances returning Thursday morning
TOMORROW NIGHT. I FEEL LIKE WE’RE KIND OF HAVING A PATTERN OF JACKET ROULETTE RIGHT NOW, RIGHT? LIKE, YOU DON’T KNOW IF YOU GOT TO WEAR A KIND OF A HEAVIER ONE, A LIGHTER ONE, NO JACKET, A RAIN JACKET. JUST BECAUSE THE TIME OF YEAR THAT ANY KIND OF WEATHER CAN BE THROWN AT YOU. I’M PRETTY MUCH A JACKET UNTIL JUNE. SMART, RIGHT? THEN YOU CAN ALWAYS TAKE IT OFF, RIGHT? I’M THAT GUY. WANDERED AROUND IN A HOODED SWEATSHIRT AND SHORTS A LOT OF DAYS, JUST BOUNCING AROUND. I MEAN, IF YOU’RE GOING TO THE GYM, BUT. YEAH. YEAH, BUT I MEAN, WE’RE GOING TO HAVE THAT SWING CONTINUE FOR A LITTLE BIT. I MEAN, WE’RE GOING TO BE, WHAT, 80 ON FRIDAY AND THEN DOWN IN THE 40S ON SUNDAY. YEAH. WEATHER WHIPLASH. IT’S ON THE WAY. AND WE GOT A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN TRYING TO FORM OUT THERE. BUT AS WE AS I STATED BEFORE, NOT A LOT OF THIS IS REACHING THE GROUND. WE’VE GOT A REALLY DRY LAYER AT THE SURFACE THAT’S BEEN EATING AWAY AT THIS. AND IF ANYTHING IS HITTING THE GROUND, I’D SAY RIGHT NOW IT’S IN SOUTHWEST KOSSUTH COUNTY. THAT’S WHERE THE HEAVIEST RAIN IS. OTHERWISE, AREAS TO THE SOUTHEAST THERE MAY SNEAK OUT A SPRINKLE, BUT THAT’S GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME FOR THAT ATMOSPHERE TO REALLY BUILD IN SOME MOISTURE. SO WE’LL DO THAT TO THE SOUTH TOMORROW MORNING. YOU CAN SEE SHOWERS AND EVEN SOME STORMS STARTING TO FIRE UP EARLY. THERE’S A LOT OF US METRO SOUTHWARD THAT ARE GOING TO BE SEEING RAIN FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE. SO PLAN FOR THAT. PLAN ON BRINGING YOUR UMBRELLA AND MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF PATIENCE, AS IT COULD BE A LITTLE BIT SLOWER ON THE ROADS BECAUSE OF THAT. THAT CLEARS OUT THOUGH, AND WE HEAD THROUGH AROUND 5 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY AND WE’RE NOT SEEING STORMS POP JUST YET, BUT THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL THAT WE COULD SEE, SOME ISOLATED, STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS. MAIN THREATS WITH THOSE WILL BE HAIL. YOU CAN SEE BULK OF THOSE, THOUGH ARE GOING TO BE SOUTHWARD INTO MISSOURI. SO THAT SYSTEM DEPARTS. WE HEAD INTO FRIDAY AND IT IS GOING TO GET HOT IN SPOTS. SPENCER UP TO 85 SIOUX CITY PUSHING CLOSE TO 90 IN THE AFTERNOON ON FRIDAY. I THINK THE METRO COMES IN SOMEWHERE CLOSE TO 80, PROBABLY AROUND 79 DEGREES OR SO, AND WE COULD SEE EVEN A LINE OF STORMS THROUGH THAT NORTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE STATE ON FRIDAY NIGHT, AGAIN BRINGING IN THAT POTENTIAL FOR SOME HAIL. SO THE AREA OF CONCERN RIGHT NOW IS THAT LOCATION OFF TO THE SOUTHWEST. THAT IS THE HIGHEST THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL. AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THREAT EXTENDS ALL THE WAY UPWARDS TOWARDS AROUND ANKENY OR SO EAST TOWARDS DAVENPORT, INCLUDING OTTUMWA. BUT IT’S ONLY A LEVEL ONE RISK FOR MOST OF US ON A SCALE THAT GOES UP TO FIVE. AND AGAIN, THAT MAIN THREAT IS LARGE HAIL. A LOOK AT THAT SEVERE RISK FOR FRIDAY GOING TO BE THAT NORTHWESTERN PORTION OF THE STATE. YOU SAW IT ON YOUR HOUR BY HOUR. THAT BRIEF LINE OF STORMS THAT FIRES UP INTO THE EVENING HOURS. AGAIN, BRINGING IN THAT POTENTIAL FOR SOME HAIL. SO DEPENDING ON WHERE THESE STORMS FIRE UP FOR YOUR THURSDAY, WE’LL HAVE SOME CHANCES FOR SOME HEAVY RAIN IN SPOTS. MUCH NEEDED RAIN TO THE TUNE OF AROUND AN INCH OR SO, ESPECIALLY AS YOU HEAD SOUTHWARD. NORTHERN MISSOURI GETTING SOME GOOD RAIN. I WISH I COULD DRAG THAT DRAG THAT A LITTLE BIT FURTHER NORTH, BUT FOR US AGAIN, MOST OF US, ESPECIALLY NORTH OF I-80, NOT GOING TO PICK UP ON MUCH OF THAT RAIN. 79 ON FRIDAY. THEN WE TUMBLE CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND COULD EVEN SEE A FEW FLAKES OF SNOW SUNDAY INTO MONDAY, WITH TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO T
