NOBODY WAS HURT. IOWANS AND STORM LAKE AND OTHER PARTS OF THE STATE ARE REALLY CLEANING UP FROM THE STORM DAMAGE THIS AFTERNOON, AFTER SEVERE WEATHER TORE THROUGH THE STATE OVERNIGHT. SOME OF THESE VIDEOS THAT YOU’LL SEE HERE SOON WERE SHARED FROM THE STORM LAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE THERE SAYS THERE’S BEEN REPORTS OF A TORNADO, BUT THAT HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED. STORM SURVEYORS ARE WORKING WITH BUENA VISTA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE. AND AS YOU CAN SEE HERE IT IS EXTENSIVE IN PORTIONS OF THAT TOWN. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says damage in Storm Lake from Thursday's storms was caused by straight-line winds estimated to be around 70 mph.The area was under a severe thunderstorm warning between 1-1:30 a.m. when this appears to have happened. The storm damaged several buildings, including knocking over a wall at Merrill Manufacturing Company's location on North Lake Avenue, and downed trees and power lines.Multiple tornadoes were reported Thursday evening when two supercell thunderstorms that traveled from Nebraska into Iowa. At least six reports came from southwest Iowa, although the National Weather Service will determine the number of actual tornadoes that formed.As of Friday morning, most of Buena Vista County has no power. According to MidAmerican Energy, the outage affects nearly 6,500 customers, including more than 4,500 in Storm Lake.
