Iowa weather: Our first widespread severe storm potential of this season is on the way
We've got a busy stretch of weather on the way so let's get into it. A potent center of low pressure will be moving in dragging a warm front in from our south. This system will bring the potential for multiple rounds of storms.
Interactive Radar | Weather Alerts
Storms will fire in northeast and western Iowa, bringing the potential for very heavy rain and isolated large hail overnight. These initial storm storms will likely not reach central Iowa until after 1 a.m. These will be a little more scattered in nature but may still have enough 'umph' to toss out some strong winds, heavy rain and isolated large hail.
Round 2: Mid-morning, 9-10 a.m. into early afternoon
Another more potent round of storms will move in by mid-morning bringing more potential for damaging winds, large hail and some tornadic potential with cells embedded in the line.
Round 3: Conditional afternoon threat 4-7 p.m.
Depending on how much the atmosphere can recover from the prior storms another severe/tornado threat may develop during the afternoon hours for central, southern and southeastern portions of the state.
Regardless of the evolution of these storms, it does appear that we'll see some beneficial rain... 1-2" with pockets of 3" and some locally higher amounts.
Temperatures taper back after our bout of strong storms with 60s for highs Wednesday and 50s Thursday through Sunday.
