Iowa weather: Winds tapering off with rain chances returning Friday
We're quieting down this afternoon from the rain and storms we saw mainly through the overnight hours that brought more than an inch of needed rain across portions of Iowa. We've been drying out today with unrelenting winds that will eventually taper off tonight.

Weak high pressure staves off any rain chances Thursday, and with highs in the upper 50s, light wind and plenty of sunshine it looks to be a wonderful day. Another center of low pressure will develop across Missouri and Illinois Friday into Saturday and may bring some light rain to southeastern Iowa, with a weaker piece of energy moving through the northwest, bringing the potential for some light rain and snow across far northwest Iowa.
High pressure centered over Canada meanders southward this weekend, and combined with a forming low pressure system over the Great Lakes our winds will gust back upwards towards 40 mph. There is some potential that the eastern third or so of the state may pick up some precipitation as the area of low pressure pushes eastward, though time will tell as models aren't exactly in great agreement.
The wind combined with cooler, drier air will take our morning lows back below freezing Sunday through Wednesday with highs on Tuesday in the upper 40s.
