Iowa weather: Rain and snow for some before thunderstorms tonight
YUMMY. NOW I’M HUNGRY OVER THIS NOON HOUR. AND IF FOLKS ARE HEADING OUT TO GET SOME LUNCH, THEY MIGHT BE MET WITH SOME RAINDROPS. YEAH, THERE’S A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS OUT THERE. NOTHING SUPER SIGNIFICANT. WE’VE SEEN A FEW MIXED SHOWERS, A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN, AND POTENTIALLY SOME SNOWFLAKES MIXING IN UP INTO NORTHERN IOWA. OTHERWISE, MAYBE SOME HEAVIER SHOWERS. FINALLY MAKING IT TO THE GROUND JUST TO THE SOUTH OF FORT DODGE, OUT TOWARDS PLACES LIKE REDFIELD, UP THROUGH GRAND JUNCTION, OVER THROUGH CARROLL, BACK INTO PORTIONS OF DALLAS COUNTY AND WINTERSET, EVEN STRETCHING OVER JUST SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN DES MOINES AS WELL. SO A FEW SHOWERS ARE OUT THERE. THE BIGGER RAIN MAKER GETS HERE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. TEMPERATURES ARE ON THE COOLER SIDE. WE SHOULD CREEP UP INTO THE LOW 50S BY THIS AFTERNOON HERE ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA. BUT FOR NOW, IT’S SOMEWHAT CHILLY. UPPER 40S IN ALTOONA. WE’RE ONLY AT 40 IN ELKHART, 39 RIGHT NOW IN BOONE. STATEWIDE, COOLER TEMPERATURES WITH THE CLOUDS AND THE SHOWERS UP ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER OF THE STATE. AS WE GO THROUGH THE REST OF THE DAY. TODAY WE STAY MOSTLY CLOUDY. A FEW SHOWERS OUT THERE. RIGHT NOW YOU CAN SEE A FEW RAINDROPS ON OUR ALGONA CAMERA ON THE LENS THERE FOR NOW, DRY IN DOWNTOWN. WE’LL SEE IF WE GET ANY LATE SHOWERS THERE OVER THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. OTHERWISE, RAIN WILL GET HERE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. THE REST OF THE DAY. NOTHING SEVERE. IT SHOULD JUST BE MAINLY LIGHT SHOWERS. IF WE DO HAVE THOSE HANGING ON. OTHERWISE A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS TONIGHT. IT’S NOT UNTIL WELL AFTER MIDNIGHT. DO I THINK WE START TO SEE ANY KIND OF SHOWER OR STORM DEVELOPMENT OUT INTO WESTERN IOWA. SO THIS IS AROUND 1 A.M. WEDNESDAY MORNING. STORMS GETTING GOING. THEY’LL PUSH THROUGH THE METRO AREA AS A LOT OF US ARE SLEEPING OVERNIGHT TONIGHT INTO THE PRE-DAWN HOURS ON WEDNESDAY, THOSE HEFTIER STORMS PUSH OFF INTO EASTERN IOWA BY SIX, 7:00 TOMORROW MORNING. AND THEN I THINK WE SHOULD BE MOSTLY DRY. IF THOSE SHOWERS GET OUT OF HERE FAST ENOUGH FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE ON WEDNESDAY, MAYBE SOME LEFTOVER RAIN SHOWERS THROUGH EIGHT 9:00 IN THE MORNING. BUT THE BIGGER SEVERE THREAT WILL DEFINITELY SHIFT TO OUR EAST BY TOMORROW MORNING. THEN WE’LL DRY OUT TOWARDS THE AFTERNOON. THERE COULD BE A STRONGER STORM OR TWO IN THOSE STORMS HERE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT, ESPECIALLY DOWN TO OUR SOUTH AND WEST. THAT SOUTHERN TIER OF IOWA IN THAT LEVEL, TWO OUT OF FIVE FOR A SLIGHT RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS, WIND AND HAIL WOULD BE OUR BIGGEST CONCERNS IF ANY OF THOSE ARE ON THE STRONGER SIDE. OTHERWISE, YOU’LL NOTICE THE WINDS PICKING UP TODAY OUT OF THE SOUTH AND EAST. WE’VE GOT GUSTS TO 35 TO 40MPH. WINDS STAY PRETTY STRONG OVERNIGHT TONIGHT, AND THEN WE’RE BACK TO A STRONG WIND THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY. WESTERLY WINDS UP TO ABOUT 40 MILE PER HOUR. GUSTS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE DAY. TOMORROW WE END UP IN THE LOW 50S THIS AFTERNOON. 40, EVEN UPPER 30S ACROSS NORTHERN IOWA. TODAY. IT STAYS MILD OVERNIGHT TONIGHT WITH THE CLOUDS AND THE RAIN AND STORMS. AND THEN TOMORROW IT’S A REALLY QUICK WARM UP FOR US IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY. MID AND EVEN UPPER 60S, 70 OUT IN THE FAR EASTERN IOWA TOMORROW. AND THEN WE’LL KIND OF COOL THINGS OFF AS WE HEAD INTO THE DAY ON THURSDAY. DROPPING INTO THE MID 30S THERE BY THURSDAY MORNING. BACK TO AVERAGE OR CLOSE TO AVERAGE THROUGH FRIDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. RIGHT NOW. KEEPING IT BREEZY FOR THE WEEKEND.
