Iowa weather: Will we have a white Christmas this year in Des Moines?
A MAN WITH A PLAN. THAT’S ALWAYS A GOOD THING. YEAH. THE PLAN, WEATHER WISE. THE NEXT FEW DAYS. STACY LOOKS KIND OF GRAY, ACTUALLY. YOU KNOW? YEAH. IT’S NOT GOING TO CAUSE YOU ANY ISSUES HERE TRAVEL WISE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, THAT A LOT OF FOLKS ARE FOCUSED ON HEADING TOWARDS THE HOLIDAY, BUT IT’S NOT GOING TO BE EXACTLY, YOU KNOW, FUN, NICE, BEAUTIFUL WEATHER EITHER OUTSIDE THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. REALLY, WE’RE LOOKING FAIRLY OVERCAST. EITHER SOME VARIATION OF A LITTLE BIT OF SOME FOG OR JUST SOME REGULAR OLD CLOUD COVERS IN OUR FUTURE. EVENTUALLY WE’LL GET SOME RAINFALL IN HERE TOO AS WE HEAD AFTER CHRISTMAS ESPECIALLY, IS WHEN OUR SHOWER POSSIBILITIES START TO CLIMB. MOST OF THE RAINFALL NOT IN IOWA. HERE TONIGHT, WE HAVE HAD STEADILY INCREASING LOW LEVEL CLOUDS WORKING OUR WAY. THEY’RE WORKING THEIR WAY SOUTHWARD OUT OF MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN. HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED UP THAT DIRECTION. THAT’S GOING TO SLOWLY SINK SOUTHWARD ACROSS IOWA TONIGHT AND INTO TOMORROW, AND JUST KIND OF LOCK THINGS IN PLACE. SO THE SHALLOW MOISTURE UNDERNEATH THAT HIGH JUST DOESN’T REALLY MOVE VERY MUCH. A LOT OF THAT IS SOME FOG. THE THICKEST FOG IS UP TOWARDS SOUTHWESTERN MINNESOTA AND INTO PARTS OF SOUTH DAKOTA HERE THIS EVENING. SO LOW LEVEL CLOUDS PRETTY PREVALENT AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE REST OF TONIGHT. AND YOU’RE GOING TO SEE THOSE BASICALLY JUST KIND OF STAY THERE INTO TOMORROW MORNING THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW. NOT MUCH CLEARING TAKES PLACE EVEN INTO TOMORROW AFTERNOON. AND THEN AS WE HEAD TOWARDS CHRISTMAS EVE, SANTA GETS THE REINDEER OUT. PROBABLY GOING TO NEED RUDOLPH TO BRIGHTEN THE NOSE UP A LITTLE BIT. MAYBE BECAUSE THEY’RE PROBABLY GOING TO BE SOME VARYING LEVELS OF FOG INTO CHRISTMAS MORNING AND THEN CHRISTMAS DAY. IT STILL LOOKS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME. WE’VE GOT LIGHT WINDS, MOSTLY OVERCAST SKIES, AND OUR TEMPERATURES. AS YOU WOULD IMAGINE, AREN’T GOING TO MOVE VERY MUCH EITHER. BUT THEY WILL BE GENERALLY ABOVE FREEZING. TOMORROW WILL ACTUALLY BE THE COOLEST DAY OF THE WEEK. UPPER 30S ON CHRISTMAS DAY. AND THEN WE DO SEE A LITTLE BIT OF A WARM UP AFTER THAT. THAT WILL BE BECAUSE OUR PATTERN SHIFTS AS WE START TO BRING IN SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW, WHICH WILL ALSO BRING US MORE MOISTURE AND A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT WEATHER SYSTEMS. POST HOLIDAY AND INTO THE WEEKEND. SO START OFF THURSDAY HERE. A FEW SHOWERS WILL MOVE IN AS SOON AS MAYBE THURSDAY AFTERNOON. MORE LIKELY THURSDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL BE KIND OF SCATTERED RAINFALL INTO THE THEN DAYTIME HOURS OF FRIDAY, AND THEN PROBABLY THE MOST LIKELY TIME OF MORE WIDESPREAD RAIN HERE FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK IS GOING TO BE AS WE HEAD TOWARDS LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND INTO THE DAY ON SATURDAY. SO KIND OF A FEW DIFFERENT WAVES OF MOISTURE WILL MOVE OUR DIRECTION. IS THIS GOING TO ADD UP TO A TON OF RAIN? PROBABLY NOT. PROBABLY END UP BEING A FEW TENTHS OF AN INCH, MAYBE A HALF AN INCH IN SOME SPOTS. ONCE YOU ADD ALL OF IT UP FROM THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND INTO SATURDAY. OUR TEMPERATURES, THOUGH, WILL BE GENERALLY A 40, MAYBE 50 IF YOU HAVE SOME DRIER TIMES IN THERE. THE CLOUDS THIN OUT A LITTLE BIT, BUT I THINK WE’LL STICK IT MOSTLY IN THE 40S. NEXT. BEST CHANCE OF SUNSHINE. PROBABLY NOT UNTIL SUNDAY, BUT OUR TEMPERATURES STAY ABOVE AVERAGE ONCE WE HEAD TOWARDS NEW YEAR. WE’RE GOING TO TAKE YOUR LONG TERM FORECAST HERE. THERE ARE MORE SIGNS NOW THAT THE FIRST HALF OF JANUARY IS GOING TO TREND COLDER. AND I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE THINKING. WELL, YEAH, IT’S JANUARY. IT’S ALWAYS COLD. NO I MEAN COLDER THAN USUAL. RIGHT. THAT’S WHAT THESE MAPS TALK ABOUT COMPARED TO NORMAL. OUR AVERAGE HIGHS THE FIRST HALF OF JANUARY, USUALLY AROUND 30 DEGREES. IT’S LOOKING MORE LIKELY THOSE ARE ABOUT 60% PROBABILITIES ON THAT DARKER BLUE COLOR THAT WILL BE TRENDING COLDER THAN THE NORM. SO ENJOY THE 30S AND T
