Thunderstorms are expected to develop over far southwest and southern Iowa around 3-4 p.m., and then race to the north and northeast through the late afternoon and evening hours. The storms should reach Des Moines and central Iowa between 4-6 p.m., then northern and eastern Iowa by 8 p.m."Due to the forecast this afternoon for severe storms during the dismissal/bus route time frame, the Martensdale-St. Marys Community School District will dismiss school at 1:00pm today," According to a post on Martensdale-St. Marys Facebook page, classes will be dismissed at 1 p.m. "Daycare will close at 2:30pm. This will be the last school day until we return from Spring Break on Tuesday, March 25. Have an enjoyable break."A post on Waukee's website says, "We want to ensure the safety of our students and staff." Afternoon preschool has been canceled, as have all evening activities, community education classes and facility rentals, except state-level competitions. Waukee Northwest is playing against West Des Moines Valley at 1 p.m. in the Class 4A boys basketball championship game at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
