WEBSITE AND MOBILE APP. THE SNOW AND WIND GOING TO IMPACT IOWA’S ROADWAYS ALREADY DOING SO IN SOME PARTS OF THE STATE. vlog TALKED WITH TRAVELERS AND TRUCKING EXPERTS ABOUT HOW THIS STORM IS CHANGING THEIR TRAVEL PLANS. BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS MOVING INTO CENTRAL IOWA ARE WORRYING TRAVELERS ON IOWA’S MAIN CORRIDORS. WE’RE SUPPOSED TO GO BACK WEDNESDAY RIGHT ON 35. NO WAY. SOME ARE ALREADY PARKING THEIR LOADS TUESDAY AFTERNOON. I WOULDN’T WANT TO BE TRAVELING EMPTY WITH 60 TO 70 MILE AN HOUR WINDS. SO BECAUSE THIS WEATHER THREAT COULD BRING TROUBLE FOR TRUCKS. IF WE HAVE SOME SORT OF WEATHER EVENT, THAT JUST PUTS THOSE BIG TRUCKS AT EVEN A BIGGER DISADVANTAGE. BRENDA NEVILLE OF THE IOWA MOTOR TRUCK ASSOCIATION SAYS MANY COMPANIES ARE REROUTING DRIVERS TO AVOID THE STORM. BUT THE ONES THAT CAN’T GET AROUND THE WEATHER. THEY’RE GOING TO PARK THOSE TRUCKS. OBVIOUSLY, WE WANT TO, YOU KNOW, TRY TO BE ABLE TO DELIVER THE PRODUCTS THAT EVERYBODY NEED, THAT EVERYBODY NEEDS AS WELL. BUT BUT WHEN IT COMES TO WEATHER, THAT’S THAT’S PROBABLY THE LOWER PRIORITY. BUT AS CONDITIONS ON THE ROADS WORSEN, STOPS LIKE THIS ONE ARE FILLING UP. NEVILLE SAYS EMERGENCY TRUCK PARKING LOCATIONS WILL ALSO OPEN UP FOR DRIVERS TO ENSURE THEY’RE SAFELY PARKED BEFORE THE STORM. HOPEFULLY, EVERYBODY HAS LUCK FINDING PARKING WHEN THEY NEED IT AND BE SAFE OUT THERE. KC

Trucking companies are pulling drivers off the roads before a blizzard sweeps the metro area overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. High winds, blowing snow and the potential for slick roads could create unsafe conditions for truck drivers, according to Iowa Motor Truck Association president and CEO Brenda Neville. "The reaction time, everything is going to be slowed down because professional truck drivers are very astute to weather conditions. The minute that they sense that things are changing, they're going to make those adjustments in speed," Neville said. "Their ability to stop, especially when they're fully loaded, is much different than my ability to stop in a Tahoe, so sharing the road and giving those trucks a lot of room, even when there isn't weather conditions, is a tip that we give motorists regularly."In reaction to the conditions, Neville said many trucking companies already rerouted trucks, or instructed them to park until the weather improves. Emergency truck parking locations will also open to ensure there is enough space for truckers to wait out the storm.
