Iowa State cruises past Arkansas-Little Rock, heads to Sweet 16
Led by Georges Niang, who scored 28 points, Iowa State cruised past Arkansas-Little Rock for a 78-61 win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament’s Midwest Regional on Thursday.
The Cyclones (23-11) advanced to their second Sweet 16 in three years, to be played at United Center in Chicago against No. 1 Virginia.
Niang, who has scored 20 or more points in four consecutive games, is the second all-team leading scorer in ISU’s history. Matt Thomas had 16, and Jameel McKay had 6.
Niang, the winningest player (97) in Cyclones history and Iowa State's only two-time All-American, was simply too much for the 12th-seeded Trojans (30-5) of the Sun Belt.
Roger Woods led the Trojans with 19.
For the second straight game, Hagins had just two points at halftime.
Unlike last time, when he went off for 29 more in a double-overtime win against Purdue, Hagins added just six after the break.
