Milan time: Momcilovic stars as Iowa State rolls past Lipscomb in NCAA Tournament
FROM MILWAUKEE WITH THE CYCLONES. WE START IN MILWAUKEE WITH JEFF DUBROF CYCLONES. KEEP DANCING. JEFF. THIS IS A GOOD THING. YEAH. BEN. STACEY, THIS WAS AN EMPHATIC WIN THIS AFTERNOON. 8255 OVER THE 14 SEED LIPSCOMB. YOU’VE HEARD THE SAYING IN MOVIES. YOU’VE HEARD IT IN BOOKS. THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME. AND MILAN MOMCILOVIC PROVED THAT IN BASKETBALL AS WELL. MOMCILOVIC WAS FANTASTIC IN HIS HOMECOMING TO WISCONSIN THIS AFTERNOON. THE PEWAUKEE NATIVE, A 20 POINT PERFORMANCE IN THIS 27 POINT WIN EIGHT OF 14 SHOOTING, FOUR OF EIGHT FROM DEEP. AND HE WAS A HUGE KEY BECAUSE LIPSCOMB HAD A 1615 LEAD EARLY. BUT HE WAS THE SPARK AS MOMCILOVIC LED IOWA STATE ON A 27 TO 5 RUN. AND THAT TURNED THE TIDE. THE CYCLONES DID NOT LOOK BACK FROM THERE AND TO PLAY IN MILWAUKEE IS ONE THING TO PLAY IN YOUR HOMETOWN, TO DO THAT IN FRONT OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND KIND OF WALK THE WALK, THAT’S A WHOLE OTHER THING. IT MEANS A LOT TO PUT ON A SHOW FOR FOR MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY. OBVIOUSLY, I WANTED TO COME TO. I WANT THEM TO COME TO A GOOD GAME AND THEY GOT THAT, AND WE REALLY NEEDED THAT BECAUSE AT THAT TIME, I MENTIONED EARLIER WHEN WE WERE DOWN, HE CAME IN AND THEN MADE TWO, THREE THREES AND THEN HE WAS REALLY GOOD IN THE POST AS WELL, JUST GETTING TO THE RIM AND MAKING SHOTS LIKE THAT. SO IT WAS REALLY AWESOME TO SEE THAT WHEN A GUY IS HOT, I MEAN, MOST OF THE TIME IT’S EITHER ME OR KURT. I’M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR HIM TO GET THEM MORE SHOTS AND KEEP THEM FEELING GOOD. KEEP THEM FEELING CONFIDENT IN THEIR SHOT. AND OBVIOUSLY WE SAW THAT WITH MILAN. LIKE I MENTIONED, MILAN MOMCILOVIC 20 POINTS, PER GAME AND LIPSEY HAD TEN. JOSHUA JEFFERSON TEN POINTS, EIGHT ASSISTS, EIGHT REBOUNDS. THE DEFENSE WAS SUPERB. THIS LOOKED LIKE THE CYCLONE TEAM THAT WE HAVE SEEN BACK IN DECEMBER, JANUARY WHEN THEY WERE RUNNING HOT TALKING TO THE TEAM IN THE LOCKER ROOM. IT WAS WORKMANLIKE, NOT TOO HIGH.
