Iowa snowfall totals: Des Moines saw more than 1 inch Monday morning

Iowa snowfall totals: Des Moines saw more than 1 inch Monday morning
OUT THERE. THIS IS A LOOK AT THE STORM CHASER DRIVING. 235 WESTBOUND SNOW IS STILL FALLING. IT’S THE SOFT, FLUFFY STUFF THOUGH, SO IT’S A VERY COLD MORNING AS YOU START OUT. AND THANKFULLY THE ROAD DOESN’T FEEL TOO FROZEN. BUT THAT’S SOMETHING WE’LL KEEP AN EYE ON. THE STORM CHASERS BEEN SHOWING US WHAT THE CONDITIONS ARE LIKE AS IT CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE MORNING, BECAUSE IT’S NOT GOING TO SNOW ALL DAY. NO, BUT IT IS A GOOD DAY TO TEST OUT THOSE WINTER DRIVING SKILLS AGAIN, BECAUSE WE REALLY HAVEN’T USED THEM YET THIS SEASON. NO, WE’VE HAD A COUPLE OF FLURRIES, A COUPLE OF SNOW SHOWERS HERE THE PAST FEW WEEKS. BUT YOU KNOW, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE REALLY HAVE SNOW ON THE GROUND. I HIT A COUPLE OF SLICK SPOTS ON MY WAY IN THIS MORNING, SO I KNOW IT’S SLICK OUT THERE. YOU CAN SEE THE SNOW STILL FLYING IN WEST DES MOINES. YOU CAN SEE THE SNOWFLAKES THERE AT THE FAIRGROUNDS AS WELL. ALGONA YOU’RE DONE WITH THE SNOW, BUT IT’S ON THE GROUND. LAMONI YOU’RE STILL SEEING SOME SNOW FALLING RIGHT NOW AS WELL, SO YOU CAN SEE THE SNOW JUST BEGINNING TO GET UNDERWAY, KIND OF IN THE LIGHTS THERE. SO THAT SNOW PUSHING ITS WAY ACROSS THE STATE, IT IS ALREADY MOVING OUT, THOUGH. THAT’S THE GOOD NEWS. IT’S NOT GOING TO BE LASTING ALL DAY LONG. THAT SNOW WILL BE MOVING OUT HERE IN THE NEXT HOUR OR SO IN DES MOINES, BUT IT’S GOING TO STAY COLD ALL DAY LONG, SO WE’RE NOT GOING TO SEE ANY MELTING TODAY. WIND CHILLS IN THE TEENS AND SINGLE DIGITS DURING THE MORNING HOURS, RECOVERING TO MAYBE FEELING LIKE 15 OR SO. HERE LATER TODAY. NORTHWEST BREEZE IS GOING TO BE KICKING IN. WE SEE A LITTLE RECOVERY TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY, BUT BY THURSDAY MORNING IMPACT WEATHER AS FRIGID WIND CHILLS ARE EXPECTED. LOOK AT THESE WIND CHILLS WEDNESDAY NIGHT THURSDAY MORNING FIVE, 1015 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. IT IS GOING TO BE A FRIGID START TO YOUR THURSDAY, SO JUST BE PREPARED FOR THOSE VERY COLD TEMPERATURES. BY THE TIME WE GET TO THURSDAY. SO A COUPLE OF DAYS AWAY OF COURSE RIGHT NOW WE’RE DEALING WITH THAT SNOW. LOOK AT THE BACK EDGE. IT’S ON THE NORTHWEST SIDE OF DES MOINES NOW. SNOW SHUTTING DOWN GRAND JUNCTION OVER TO AMES. ANKENY STARTING TO SEE THAT SNOW TAPER OFF, BUT IT CONTINUES TO PUSH OFF TO THE SOUTH. SO NOW MOST OF THE SNOW IS SOUTH OF I-80 AND EAST OF I-35. SO SOUTHEASTERN IOWA, YOU’RE STILL GOING TO BE DEALING WITH THIS SNOW HERE THROUGH THE REST OF THE MORNING. BUT HERE IN DES MOINES, WE ARE JUST ABOUT DONE. IF YOU LIVE NORTH OF DES MOINES, THAT SNOW IS OVER JUST CLOUDS AND COLD CONDITIONS IN PLACE, LITTLE STORM SYSTEM, NOT VERY BIG, JUST ENOUGH TO KICK OFF A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW SLIDING ON BY. BUT BEHIND IT? YEAH, THESE NORTH WINDS, THEY WILL BE STICKING WITH US ALL DAY LONG. THAT MEANS THE COLD WEATHER IS LOCKED IN 22 RIGHT NOW, WITH A WIND CHILL OF 13 AS THE SNOW CONTINUES TO FLY. 21 IN CARROLL, 20 IN WATERLOO, FORT DODGE ALGONA DOWN TO 19 WITH A WIND CHILL OF NINE IN ALGONA. FEELS LIKE FOUR IN SIOUX CITY. WINDS ARE NOT ALL THAT STRONG RIGHT NOW, BUT LOOK AT THAT WIND IN SIOUX CITY, 25 MILES AN HOUR. THAT’S SOME STRONGER NORTHWEST WINDS, WHICH WILL BUILD IN LATER THIS MORNING. THAT WILL KEEP IT FEELING COLD ALL DAY LONG. SO HERE’S THE SNOW IS PUSHING OFF TO THE SOUTH RIGHT NOW, STILL ONGOING THROUGH SEVEN 8:00 ACROSS SOUTHEAST IOWA. BUT WE’RE DONE HERE IN DES MOINES. JUST STUCK WITH THE CLOUDS AND THE COLD WEATHER. 21 DEGREES AT NINE BY NOON. MAYBE THE CLOUDS START TO BREAK UP A LITTLE BIT, BUT I STILL THINK WE’RE LOCKED INTO THE CLOUD COVER THROUGH THE LUNCH HOUR 23 DEGREES. THE CLOUDS DO BREAK UP A LITTLE BIT BY THIS AFTERNOON, GIVING US SOME LATE DAY SUNSHINE. A HIGH TODAY ONLY AROUND 25 DEGREES, SO IT’S GOING TO BE A COLD ONE OUT THERE. AVERAGE HIGH IS 41, SO WE ARE WELL BELOW AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. TONIGHT BACK DOWN INTO THE TEENS. IT WILL BE COLD OUT THERE 13 BY THE TIME WE GET TO TOMORROW MORNING HERE IN DES MOINES. TEN IN CARROLL, TEN IN FORT DODGE TOMORROW MAY BE SOME MELTING UP TO ABOUT 36 DEGREES. SO WE START A BRIEF WARMING TREND GETS US INTO THE 40S ON WEDNESDAY. BUT THEN THAT NEXT BLAST OF COLD COMES IN. IMPACT WEATHER THURSDAY MORNING LOWS AROUND TEN. BUT AGAIN, WIND CHILLS WILL BE WELL BELOW ZERO EARLY IN THE MORNING. BUT CHECK OUT THE WEEKEND
