Matchup to watch: Colorado's veterans hoping for revenge
Here's where things get interesting.
Colorado returns 84.5% of its team minutes from last year and 88% of its scoring, according to sports-reference. The Buffaloes have been ranked as high as No. 3 this season in the AP Poll and beat No. 1 seed USC, No. 2 seed Stanford, No. 3 seed LSU, and No. 5 seed Utah during the regular season.
The Buffaloes have tried a few lineups this year, but the starting five they've ultimately landed on includes a junior, two seniors and two fifth-year seniors. It's one of the most experienced groups in the country.
Four of Colorado's five starters from last year's Sweet 16 game against Iowa are back, including all four Buffaloes who scored in double-figures in that game.
Caitlin Clark, of course, led Iowa with 31 points and eight assists. Kate Martin tallied 16 points. After that, Monika Czinano and McKenna Warnock — two Iowa starters from last year's team who are no longer with the Hawkeyes — combined to score 27 points and grab 11 rebounds while shooting 11-for-15 from the floor.
The Hawkeyes ultimately won by 10 after eight lead changes and four ties, thanks in large part to Czinano and Warnock sparking a run early in the third quarter. When Colorado brought it within four points with under 1:30 to go in the game, it was a bucket from Czinano that helped Iowa extend the lead and seal the win.
