HE WAS STABLE WHEN HE WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL TO MOVE TO THE ICU YESTERDAY. COUNTY OFFICIALS SAY THREE OTHER PEOPLE WERE HURT, BUT THEY’LL BE OKAY THIS NEW VIDEO SHOWS THE INTENSITY AND SHEER SIZE OF THE TWISTER. MINDEN, OUR PHARMACY HAS DAMAGE. OUR MEAT MARKET HAS DAMAGE. THE GROCERY STORE THAT I WORKED AT FOR 17 YEARS HAS DAMAGE. THAT IS, EXCEPT THE HOME OF LAURA DITTMAR, WHO LIVES JUST OUTSIDE TOWN. ALTHOUGH SHE LOST HER MACHINE SHED A GARAGE AND A COUPLE OF TREES, DITMARS WHITE FARM HOME REMAINS STANDING. WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE THAT WE HAVE OUR OWN HOME BACK, BUT SHE’S THINKING OF THOSE NOT AS FORTUNATE. INITIAL REPORTS SAY 40 TO 50 HOMES WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY THE STORM. IT AMOUNTS TO OVER HALF THE TOWN. THEY LOST HOUSES. THE CHURCH IS GONE. OUR BEST FRIEND’S HOUSE IS GONE. AS OF SUNDAY, ONLY THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE CITY WERE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE CHURCH TO GET A YELLOW. IT’S THE TOWN’S WAY OF REDUCING TRAFFIC WHILE CREWS WORK TO MAKE THE AREA SAFE. THE DAMAGES WERE SO SEVERE THAT GOVERNOR KIM REYNOLDS DECLARED A DISASTER PROCLAMATION DURING HER VISIT TO THE TOWN SATURDAY. A man who was hurt during Friday's tornado in Minden, Iowa, has died of his injuries, family members confirmed to vlog sister station KETV NewsWatch 7. The man was unconscious when first responders found him, a deputy with the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office told KETV. He was transported to the hospital and was in stable condition, authorities said. He was then moved to the ICU on Saturday, the deputy said.County officials confirmed that three people were also injured from the tornado. They were treated and released. The tornado tore through Minden at 6 p.m. on Friday, and it broke gas lines, causing gas leaks and tore down power lines.The Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office estimated between 40 to 50 homes were destroyed, about half of the town.Although she lost her machine shed, a garage, and a couple of trees, Leora Dittmer's white farm home just outside Minden remains standing."It was such a nerve-wracking day. You could just feel all the emotion in the air," she said. "We're very fortunate that we have our own home back."Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds took a tour of the wreckage and put emergency policies in place.
