No. 2 Michigan grabbed an early 14-0 lead and never looked back, dominating No. 13 Iowa 42-3 Saturday night to win the Big Ten Championship. The win denies the Hawkeyes a spot at the Rose Bowl and ensures the Wolverines one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff.
Iowa had two early chances inside the red zone, but came away with just 3 points. Michigan struck first on a 67-yard TD run by Blake Corum. Later in the first quarter, Donovan Edwards caught a pass, then threw it deep to a wide open Roman Wilson for a 75-yard TD and a 14-0 lead. Iowa trailed 14-3 at the half and never got any offense.
Alex Padilla came in at QB to relieve a struggling Spencer Petras. Padilla went 10/15 for 38 yards, but he threw a pick and the team never could solve Michigan's impressive defensive front. Michigan piled on the points in the second half to blow it open.
