Gov. Reynolds signs 12 bills into law
IOWA’S NEWS LEADER. VERY SCARY. THANKS, MARCUS. WELL, NEW AT FOUR. IT HAS BEEN A BUSY DAY FOR GOVERNOR REYNOLDS. SHE SIGNED A DOZEN BILLS INTO LAW THIS AFTERNOON. ONE OF THEM IS SENATE FILE 397. IT INCREASES PENALTIES FOR ASSAULTS OF PEOPLE IN CERTAIN OCCUPATIONS, LIKE POLICE, JAILERS AND MORE. SOMEONE WHO ASSAULTS A PERSON WITH THAT JOB TITLE COULD BE CHARGED WITH A CLASS C FELONY. SHE ALSO SIGNED HOUSE FILE 924 INTO LAW. IT LOWERS THE AGE REQUIREMENT TO GET A WEAPONS PERMIT FROM 21 TO 18. SENATE FILE 266 REVOLVES AROUND THEFT AND FORGERY OF GIFT CARDS. ACCORDING TO THE BILL, IF SOMEONE USES A FAKE GIFT CARD INTENTIONALLY, THEY WILL BE CHARGED WITH A MISDEMEANOR.
