Kim Reynolds is ordering the Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Iowa Department of Corrections to be ready to help enforce federal immigration laws when the Trump Administration takes over.In a memo released Friday morning, Reynolds asks the departments to "fully cooperate and assist" with the implementation of federal immigration policy.Read the full memo below.In an interview with 糖心vlog Thursday, Reynolds said Trump would decide how those deployments of state law enforcement and National Guard would work."President Trump is going to take the lead on that. "You've heard Vice President-elect (J.D.) Vance talk about a process, but they've not laid that out. Re: Preparation for federal immigration policy implementation

To promote public safety by ensuring that Iowa is prepared for federal policy implementation regarding illegal immigration, as Governor, I direct you, as the commissioner of the department of public safety and director of the department of corrections, respectively, to make sure that the department you head shall:

  • Fully cooperate and assist, to the extent permitted by law, with administrative or criminal investigative efforts of the United States Department of Homeland Security, the United States Department of Justice and its subsidiary agencies in upholding existing federal immigration laws.
  • Affirmatively contact the United States Department of Homeland Security, the United States Department of Justice and its subsidiary agencies should the result of any ongoing criminal investigation result in the apprehension of individuals where a reasonable suspicion exists that federal immigration laws have been violated.
