BUT AS HOSPITALS FILL UP AND COVID-19 HITS RECORD NUMBERS IN IOWA, THE GOVERNOR INDICATED WE’VE REACHED CRITICAL MASS GOVERNOR REYNOLDS: STARTING TOMORROW WHEN YOU’RE IN INDOOR PUBLIC SPACE AND UNABLE TO SOCIAL DISTANCE FOR 15 MINUTES OR LONGER, MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN. CHRIS BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF : EXCEPTIONS. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced new coronavirus mitigation efforts Monday to “fight the virus” in a statewide address Monday.The governor is instituting a new emergency health proclamation that takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and lasts through Dec. 10. The proclamation includes an indoor mask mandate, with some exceptions, along with a ban on some indoor and outdoor gatherings and limitations on bars and restaurants.“If Iowans don’t buy into this, we lose,” Reynolds said. “Businesses will close once again. More schools will be forced to go online. Our health care system will fail and the cost in human life will be high. So now is the time to come together for the greater good.”Beginning Tuesday, all people two or older must wear a mask or face covering when inside an indoor space that is open to the public and within 6 feet of individuals who are not members of their household for 15 minutes. The order exempts people for medical conditions, people working alone or where social distancing can be maintained, people consuming food or drink in a restaurant setting or bar table, people giving a performance or participating in a religious service.“The proclamation requires that when people are in an indoor public space, and unable to social distance for 15 minutes or longer, masks are required to be worn. The same requirements apply to visitors and employees inside State buildings. Additional mask requirements are imposed for certain specific establishments and gatherings,” the governor’s office said through a news release.The proclamation also prohibits indoor gatherings of more than 15 people. This includes wedding and funeral receptions and family gatherings unless all members of the gathering live in the same household. Outdoor gatherings of more than 30 people are prohibited, with some exceptions. Other than high school, collegiate or professional sporting or recreational gatherings, all sporting or recreational gatherings of any size are prohibited, with some exemptions. Organized youth and adult sports activities of any size are suspended. This includes basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, swimming, dance, and group fitness classes at gyms. While high school sports and extracurricular activities are not prohibited, spectators at games or events are limited to two per student and are required to wear a mask.Restaurants, bars, bowling alleys, arcades, pool halls, bingo halls, and indoor playgrounds are required to close at 10 p.m. and cannot host private gatherings of more than 15 people. Masks must be worn by staff who have direct contact with customers, and customers must wear masks when they are not seated at their table to eat or drink.
