Ferentz gets 200th win at Iowa as Hawkeyes roll over Washington
EIGHT SPORTS. POWERED BY CARL’S AUTO GROUP. NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT. IOWA NEEDS A WIN. THEY NEEDED THIS ONE BACK AT HOME. FAVORED AGAINST THE BIG TEN NEWCOMER WASHINGTON A TEAM THAT IS NOT LAST YEAR’S NATIONAL TITLE RUNNER UP. STRIPE OUT AT KINNICK. ONE OF THE GREAT SIGHTS WE GET TO SEE IN THE YEAR. WASHINGTON DROVE DOWN THE FIELD EARLY IN THE GAME, BUT SPECIAL TEAMS AND THEY’VE BEEN SHAKY FOR WASHINGTON. THEY’VE BEEN GREAT FOR IOWA. AND YOU SEE IT THERE. WHY A BLACK GETS A HAND ON THAT ONE. IT’S BLOCKED. IOWA RESPONDS IMMEDIATELY. THEY DRIVE DOWN THE FIELD AND THAT’S A TOUCHDOWN. WHO ELSE? CALEB JOHNSON CAPPING IT OFF AN 80 YARD TOUCHDOWN DRIVE. IT’S SEVEN NOTHING WASHINGTON CAME INTO THIS GAME BOASTING A GREAT PASSING ATTACK. WILL ROGERS THAT’S A DIME TO DENZEL BOSTON. COULD NOT BE PLACED ANY MORE PERFECTLY. AND WE’RE ALL SQUARE AT SEVEN. IOWA WOULD TAKE THE LEAD BACK ON A TEN 7 OR 10 SEVEN TO MAKE IT ON A DREW STEVENS FIELD GOAL. AND THIS RIGHT HERE IS KADEN MCNAMARA’S FIRST TOUCHDOWN PASS AGAINST A POWER CONFERENCE TEAM SINCE 2021, WHEN HE WAS AT MICHIGAN. AND IT WAS AGAINST IOWA. SO IOWA WAS UP 17 SEVEN. WE HAD SOME CONTROVERSY GOING INTO THE HALF. THIS IS GOING TO COUNT AS A WASHINGTON 35 YARD FIELD GOAL TO MAKE IT 1710. AND I’M NOT SO SURE HE GOT IT. BUT THE REFS SAY IT’S GOOD. AND THE FANS WERE NOT HAPPY AND RIGHTFULLY SO. IOWA WOULD LEAD, THOUGH 2010 AT THE HALF AND IN THE SECOND HALF. IOWA. IOWA MADE THE FANS FORGET ABOUT THAT BOTCHED CALL UP 2310. THEY’RE DRIVING. IT’S THE WORKHORSE AGAIN. CALEB JOHNSON EIGHT YARDS AT 30 TO 10 I’LL FINISH THE BUSH LIGHT YOUNG MAN. COME ON. THAT HAD KINNICK ROCKING CADE MCNAMARA. HOW ABOUT THIS 37 YARDS DAYTON HOWARD CALEB JOHNSON FINISHES 166 YARDS TWO TOUCHDOWNS. CADE MCNAMARA 108 YARDS PASSING TWO TOUCHDOWNS THROUGH THE AIR. WELCOME TO THE BIG TEN WASHINGTON 4016. YOUR FINAL SHANNON EARHART HAS MORE. AARON GRAVES TOLD US POST GAME THAT HE IS SICK AND TIRED OF HEARING THE PHRASE TALE OF TWO HALVES, BUT THAT IT WAS TRUE. IOWA HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO STRING TOGETHER A COMPLETE GAME THIS SEASON. WELL, TODAY WE GOT THE FULL STORY. IOWA PLAYED COMPLEMENTARY FOOTBALL IN THE PARTY, GOT STARTED WITH SPECIAL TEAMS, AND THAT BLOCKED PUNT. THE EXPLOSIVE RUNS FROM KAYDEN CHAN PILED ON TO THAT. THEN THE OFFENSE WORE DOWN. WASHINGTON PLAYING HARD NOSED BIG TEN FOOTBALL, MEANING THE HAWKS RAN FOR 220 YARDS. THE DEFENSE FORCED TWO TURNOVERS AND HAD THREE FOURTH DOWN STOPS. THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL A COMPLETE GAME. I NOTICED IT, IT WAS JUST AN ENERGY ON THE SIDELINE. AND YOU KNOW, MAYBE IT WAS THE STRIPES AND THE CROWD OR SOMETHING. BUT EVERYONE WAS MOVING AROUND A LOT BETTER. WE HAD GREAT ENERGY OUT THERE AND YOU COULD JUST YOU COULD FEEL THEM START TO WEAR DOWN. AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT I DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING, BUT WE WERE WE WERE ON THE SIDELINE AND THEY WERE LOOKING AT US FOR SOME REASON, I DON’T KNOW. I DON’T KNOW IF THAT WAS AN INTIMIDATION THING OR SOMETHING OR JUST LIKE WONDERING LIKE IF WE’RE GOING TO STOP OR SOMETHING AT SOME POINT. SO, YOU KNOW, WITH THE HAWKS, YOU NEVER, NEVER REALLY STOP TO CAP THE DAY. COACH FERRIS IS NOW THE SECOND BIG TEN COACH EVER TO WIN 200 GAMES. IT WAS GETTING A LITTLE CHOKED UP THERE. YEAH. AFTER AFTER THE GAME. RIGHTFULLY SO. I MEAN THAT’S A BIG GAME A BIG WIN. WE GAVE THEM A GAME BALL GOT PRETTY WET IN THERE. EVERYBODY WAS YOU KNOW, THROWING WATER AT THEM AND STUFF. SO IT’S PRETTY EXCITING. AND HE’S SO HUMBLE, SO NONCHALANT THAT IT’S NOT THE FIRST THING HE SAID WAS, YOU KNOW, HE TALKED ABOUT US AND EVERYTHING WE DID WELL THAT GAME AND DIDN’T EVEN TALK ABOUT HIMSELF. CALEB JOHNSON’S HAT TRICK HEADLINED THE DAY, BUT PLAYERS TOLD US THAT THEY WILL FOREVER REMEMBER. COACH KIRK FERENTZ IS 200TH WIN FROM KINNI
