THE TASK FORCE FIRST MET WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. WE’VE SINCE LEARNED THE NEXT MEETING IS JUNE 4TH. A FINAL MEETING AND REPORT ARE SET FOR SEPTEMBER. THE 16 MEMBERS ARE MOSTLY FROM THE BUSINESS SECTOR, WITH SEVERAL FROM ELECTED ROLES AND COUNTY AND STATE GOVERNMENT. NOW GOVERNOR KIM REYNOLDS MET WITH THE TASK FORCE AND ASKED THEM TO HELP STATE GOVERNMENT RUN LIKE A BUSINESS. ACCORDING TO A RECORDING OF THE MEETING. NOW THERE WILL BE SUBGROUPS FROM THE TASK FORCE, AND THEY’LL MEET ON THREE AREAS RETURN ON TAXPAYER INVESTMENT, TECHNOLOGY AND WORKFORCE. EMILY SCHMIDT, THE GENERAL COUNSEL OF MANUFACTURING, IS THE CHAIR OF THE TASK FORCE. The Iowa Department of Government Efficiency Task Force met for the first time April 2 and its chairperson said its goal would be to apply business practices to government processes and agencies. Gov. Kim Reynolds mentioned the task force in her Condition of the State address in January. Then she made it official in February through an executive order, saying the group had to meet within 60 days.vlog reviewed a recording and materials of the meeting that were sent on Friday. Here's what we've learned:The next meeting is June 4.A final meeting will be held in September.A report of recommendations is to go to Reynolds by Sept. 29.The 16 members of the task force are mostly from the Iowa business sector, joined by several elected officials. The group will have three subgroups to focus on return on taxpayer investment, technology and workforce. Emily Schmitt, general counsel for Sukup Manufacturing, is the chair of the task force. "Each one of you goes and sees continuous improvement every day, and you know we haven't applied that to our government agencies or processes as much as business does," Schmitt said in the meeting recording.A next big focus is getting input from Iowans.
