As COVID-19 continues to spread in Iowa, the state reported several new records for hospitalizations Monday.The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 2,335 new coronavirus cases and six additional deaths. As of 10 a.m., the health department reported 187,020 total positive cases, 108,174 total recoveries and 1,991 total deaths since the pandemic began. The state reported 184,685 total cases and 1,985 total deaths 24 hours earlier.Iowa broke records for hospitalizations, patients in intensive care, number of patients admitted in the last 24 hours and patients on ventilators Monday. There are currently 1,392 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s up from 1,279 a day earlier. There are 271 patients in intensive care, up from 247 the previous day. Iowa hospitals admitted 243 patients in the last 24 hours, up from 208 the previous day. There are a record 123 patients on ventilators, up from 115 a day earlier. Iowa lists approximately 2,790 available hospital beds, 354 available ICU beds and 850 available ventilators. Health department data shows 1,019 of hospitalized patients were admitted for a primary COVID-19 diagnosis, while 373 were hospitalized for a different reason but tested positive. The state reports 75% of hospitalized patients are over the age of 60.
