President Joe Biden won the Iowa Democratic Presidential Caucus by a wide margin.
In the state party's first mail-in caucus, Iowa Democrats marked their presidential preference on caucus cards and submitted them by mail. Biden received 11,083 of the 12,207 mail-in preference cards, or 90.8%, according to a news release from the Iowa Democrats.

“Iowans recognize that President Biden has made great investments in communities across Iowa including in our childcare centers, roads and bridges, and by expanding broadband access in our most rural areas,” IDP Chair Rita Hart said in the release.
“IDP’s staff has worked hard over this past year to make sure that this year’s presidential caucus was as accessible as possible. Not only have we reached the turnout numbers that we experienced in 2012 — we’ve exceeded them. That’s clear evidence that Iowans are energized and ready to re-elect President Biden.”
Four percent of the responding Iowa Democrats chose uncommitted while Dean Phillips got 3% and Marianne Williamson received 2%.
The Iowa Democratic Party began collecting mail-in ballots on Jan. 12. Results were unsealed, tabulated and released on Tuesday.
Tuesday also marks the first time Iowa Democrats have released results on Super Tuesday, a break with their long-held tradition of announcing results before any other state's presidential nominating contest.
The Democratic National Committee voted to strip Iowa of its first-in-the-nation status last year when they re-did the presidential nominating calendar. The decision came amid complaints over Iowa's lack of diversity and after issues with a mobile app delayed the reporting of results several days.
Hart said having the mail-in ballots allowed a number of voters to participate that wouldn't have otherwise.
"The success is that, again, people who have never participated before were able to participate in this process," she said. "I think that's democracy in action, right? So we're pleased with that."
