On the cusp of the NCAA women's basketball scoring record, former Dowling Catholic star Caitlin Clark is an inspiration for current Maroons. Clark scored 2,547 points in her four years playing for Dowling — No. 4 on the Iowa high school five-on-five career scoring list. She's scored 3,520 points for the Iowa Hawkeyes, seven points from matching record-holder Kelsey Plum. "It's like she's inspiring all of us to know that we can be great at anything we do," Dowling sophomore Ellie Muller said Monday. Clark, who averages a little over 32 points per game this season, is expected to break the record Thursday at home against Michigan. Tickets for that sold-out game are selling for hundreds of dollars over face value. Fans can also watch the game on Peacock.Current Maroons, who open postseason play on Saturday, usually get together to watch Iowa women's games, with Clark always the star of the show. "It's just great seeing how far she's come and how much attention she's brought to girls basketball and college basketball in general," said Dowling junior Macy Marnden.Kristin Meyer, who coached Clark from 2016-2020, said the entire Dowling coaching staff will be at Thursday's game to watch history being made alongside nearly 16,000 other fans. "I'm really excited to witness that in person," Meyer said.Last week, Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder said there wasn't anything specific planned for when Clark breaks the record — but she was sure there was something in the works. She also said officials told the team not to stop the game when it happens — Bluder joked she might just burn a timeout anyway so Caitlin can have her moment.NCAA women's basketball career scoring leadersKelsey Plum, Washington — 3,527*Caitlin Clark, Iowa — 3,520Kelsey Mitchell, Ohio State — 3,402Jackie Stiles, Missouri State — 3,393Brittney Griner, Baylor — 3,283*Dyaisha Fair, Buffalo/Syracuse — 3,213Patricia Hoskins, Mississippi Valley State — 3,122Lorri Bauman, Drake — 3,115Jerica Coley, FIU — 3,107Rachel Banham, Minnesota — 3,093* — Clark and Fair are active players.More Caitlin Clark coverageHow to watch Iowa's Caitlin Clark go for NCAA scoring record vs. Michigan on PeacockWhat to see Caitlin Clark make history?
