It's no shock there are no limits to what *** woman can achieve. Think about the women in your life, maybe your mom, partner, friend, or daughter they all possess traits of strength, resilience and determination. In this stitch episode we highlight women from across the country who are fearless go-getters, helpers, and even. Lifesavers, thanks for joining us. I'm Megan Mitchell. Our first stories showcase women who are blazing their way in their respective fields. First, we're taken to the skies in Vermont, WPDZ reporter Brianna Borgi shows us *** group of young women soaring to new heights in *** male dominated field. Sometimes all it takes is one conversation. I spoke with *** woman captain at United Airlines at *** family friend gathering when I was around 12 years old, and she told me that I should become *** pilot for big dreams to take flight. I really just decided, you know, I want to fly, so I'm going to do it, and she is. Kyra Becker is one of just 4 women in the professional pilot technology program at Vermont Technical College at just 20 years old. She's already *** flight instructor at Franklin County State Airport. It's really nice to be able to share my passion with others and watch growth happen. Becker's classmate Hannah Netto is also spreading her wings in *** male dominated field. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, women make up less than 10% of pilots, executives, and mechanics. In comparison, nearly 80% of flight attendants are women. 4.7% of airline pilots are female. 4.7%. That is just incredibly low in my opinion, and I really want to see those numbers grow. That's why Netto is the membership chair of Vermont's new Women in Aviation International chapter. It grows every single day. I get emails almost on the daily about new members wanting to join. The chapter is *** partnership between VTC, the Vermont Flight Academy, and Beta Technologies, which hosted the first in-person meeting. Beta team member Willa Clark is one of the chapter's founders. I hope it opens women's eyes to being able to be involved in something that. 10 years ago was almost unaccessible. The 19 year old who has her private pilot's license says the chapter will provide opportunities for networking, mentoring, and scholarships. I'm super passionate about it and feel really strongly that everyone should be able to be involved in it for these young women, their goal. are sky high. Dream job is to fly electric aircrafts, land them on top of hospitals, and deliver organs. I hope to become the youngest female commercial airline captain ever. The age to be 26 and I sincerely think I can do it. And they're already soaring.
