Girls wrestling in Iowa is taking another leap. This past year, the State Tournament expanded to two classes: 1A for small schools, 2A for bigger schools.
Next on the list? A State Duals Tournament.
The IGHSAU announced Wednesday it will hold State Duals starting the season after next. It will take place in January of 2027 and be held prior to the State Individual (traditional) tournament.
"A state dual meet tournament is something that our wrestling schools have wanted," said IGHSAU Executive Director Erin Gerlich. "The impressive growth of girls wrestling in Iowa, along with more schools being able to field a full roster of wrestlers in every weight class, shows that girls wrestling is ready for a dual team tournament."
The number of classes for State Duals and state meet venue will be determined at a later date.
