When giving birth to a child, most parents know to expect the unexpected. With that being said, one Mississippi mother is still shocked by how quickly her daughter was born and where she was delivered.
The Daley family welcomed Maddox to the world early Thursday morning. Although the family already has four children, the most recent baby's delivery was different and surprising.
"That was the shock factor. When you get a phone call saying, 'Hey, congratulations. We just had your child on the side of Highway 84 in the back of an ambulance,'" Justin Daley said.
Although the baby came a lot sooner than mom expected, Katie Daley said she wasn't scared.
"I wasn't nervous. I knew my abilities. I knew what was coming and I knew I was in good hands and that they were going to do their part," Katie Daley said.
Even though it's not the first time the Rapid Rural Response paramedics delivered a baby in an ambulance, they said it still can be dangerous.
"We don't treat babies all the time, so if something were to go wrong, we have the training, the knowledge and the access to treat that patient if something is wrong with them, but it's not available in your mind all of the time," paramedic Gregory Stalans said.
Maddox was born a healthy 9 pounds, 6 ounces and is 20 inches long.
