Hundreds attend memorial for 1985 ISU plane crash victims

Hundreds attended a memorial Wednesday to remember the victims of the Iowa State University plane crash in 1985.

It was 30 years ago on Wednesday that several members of the ISU women's cross country team were killed when a small-plane crashed in a Des Moines neighborhood.
The team was on its way back home from Milwaukee after placing 2nd in the NCAA national meet. The plane crashed around 5 p.m. and killed the pilot, three members of the the Iowa State Women's Cross Country Team, two coaches and a trainer.
The memorial was held where at the exact spot the plane went down at the intersection of Country Club Boulevard and Shriver Avenue.
There's also excitement because on Wednesday a new park was unveiled in honor of the seven victims.
