POPE JOHN PAUL II VISITED IOWA AND, THE EAST HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM CLENCHED A UNDEFETEAD SEASON. -- EAST WITH THE BASKETBALL NOW, THE NUMBER ONE RATED TEAM IN THE STATE. >> PEOPLE WERE STANDING IN LINE AT 2:00 IN THE MORNING TRYING TO , GET TICKETS TO OUR GAME WE WERE REALLY TREATED AS ROYALTY. >> AND CROWNED 6 ON 6 STATE CHAMPS, FOREVER CEMENTING THE PERFECT SEASON. >> WE WERE ELEVATED AT A TIME WHEN AS GIRLS, YOU DID NOT KNOW WHAT THAT FELT LIKE. >> TO GET A LESSON IN 6 ON 6, WE BROUGHT A COUPLE OF EAST PLAYERS BACK TO THE LANE FOR A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE. MEANING GUARDS WERE ALWAYS ON DEFENSE AND FORWARDS ALWAYS SHOT THE BALL. >> I LITERALLY DID NOT SHOOT A BASKETBALL AT THIS SCHOOL, EVER. >> THERE WERE ALSO NO THREE POINTERS. >> AT 90 POINTS A GAME, WE DIDN’T NEED THE 3. >> AND POSSIBLY THE TOUGHEST RULE TO GET USED TO, PLAYERS CAN ONLY DRIBBLE THE BALL UP TO TWO TIME >> I WAS JUST STARTING TO FEEL I >> WHEN A CERTAIN IOWA BASKETBALL STAR SHOWED UP. >> HEY, COACH. >> DRAKE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HEAD OACH JENNIE BARANCZYK CAME IN TO CHECK IN ON OUR PROGRESS. TURNS OUT, ALL THESE LADIES, THOUGH PLAYING AT DIFFERENT TIMES, PLAYED FOR IOWA BASKETBALL COACHING LEGENDS, BOB AND SHARON HANSON. AND ALL, HAVE GREAT MEMORIES OF THE STATE TOURNAMENT. >> THE STATE TOURNAMENT IN DES MOINES AND IN IOWA AND AS AN IOWA GIRL. Today is day two of girls high school basketball tournament. The tournament is special for many young female athletes. Drake Women's Head Basketball Coach Jennie Baranczyk played in the state tournament when she was at Dowling High School.She believes the Iowa tournament is the best in the country."It's larger than life. It really is. It's really cool and there's pressure and there's challenge and there's fun and there's just excitement, but it's completely unmatched,"There's a lot of history laced into the state tournament. In Family Matters, we take a trip back to 1979 when two dribbles was it, and the East Scarlets reigned.
