A new documentary tells the story of a company of Black Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers, and how their efforts created the blueprint for modern paramedic services in America.

Fifty years ago, in a historically Black neighborhood in Pittsburgh, a little-known group of trailblazers made history. Freedom House Ambulance service, run and staffed by Black men and women, became the first paramedic unit in the country and the blueprint for the current national model.
