Helping children prepare for a COVID-19 test
Michelle Petersen, child life specialist at Children's Hospital in Nebraska, said parents should walk their kids through what they can expect before getting tested for COVID-19. "We know that they are less anxious going into it if they know what they are going into," Petersen said. Dr. Shannon Godsil is a pediatrician and she said parents should stay calm, too. "I think the idea and the build up is sometimes the hardest part. A lot of times when the parents are showing that nervousness or exuding some of that comfortableness their children can pick up on it," Godsil said. Godsil said parents often ask her if their child should get tested. "So, I think as a family if you are wanting a test talking with your pediatrician and seeing what are some of those options," Godsil said.
