The Governor's School Safety Task Force is nearing its end of finalizing recommendations to send to Iowa legislators regarding safety and security improvements for Iowa schools.
Members of the task force met Thursday morning, narrowing down what recommendations they would approve to send to legislators. The task force revised the wording on 16 points and finalized the ones they hope to send to legislators. The recommendations vary from securing entrances into school buildings to getting shatterproof glass for windows, just to name a few.
Other recommendations revised and looked at Thursday include making sure school buildings have a visitor entry plan and looking at special locks for classroom doors.
This has been months in the making of hard work. The task force first began meeting in June, after Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a new law focused on school safety back in May. Since June, the task force has met repeatedly to draft up the recommendations.
The task force has until Dec. 31 to finalize the recommendations it plans to send to state lawmakers. However, the task force plans to meet next week to vote on the final recommendations.
