CRASH HAPPENED TONIGHT, A NUMBER OF MAJOR BILLS THAT WOULD IMPACT TRANSGENDER KIDS ARE WAITING. THE GOVERNOR’S SIGNATURE ONE STEP AWAY FROM BECOMING LAW. vlog CHIEF POLITICAL REPORTER AMANDA ROOKER TALKED WITH GOVERNOR KIM REYNOLDS ABOUT THOSE BILLS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THEY REACHED HER DESK. AMANDA. STACEY JAMES, THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE SAYS THOSE BILLS ARE STILL BEING PROCESS, BUT THE GOVERNOR DOES PLAN TO SIGN BOTH OF THEM ONCE THEY DO REACH HER DESK. ONE OF THOSE BILLS WOULD RESTRICT WHICH BATHROOMS, TRANSGENDER IOWANS CAN USE. THE OTHER WOULD BAN GENDER TRANSITION PROCEDURES FOR ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18. TODAY, THE GOVERNOR SAYS SHE HAS TALKED WITH PARENTS OF TRANSGENDER KIDS. THE GOVERNOR SAYS, QUOTE, HER HEART GOES OUT TO THEM. BUT SHE ALSO SAYS SHE BELIEVES THE BILLS ARE NECESSARY TO PROTECT IOWA KIDS. I BELIEVE THAT THE SCIENCE ISN’T CONCLUSIVE TO TO SUPPORT WHAT WE’RE POTENTIALLY DOING TO OUR KIDS. THESE ARE IRREVERSIBLE. WE DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE LONG TERM EFFECTS. I’M A PARENT. I’M A GRANDMOTHER. I KNOW HOW DIFFICULT THIS IS. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNCOMMON POSITION FOR ME TO BE IN. YOU KNOW, I DON’T LIKE IT, BUT I HAVE TO DO WHAT I BELIEVE RIGHT NOW IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE KIDS. SOME REPUBLICANS ARE STILL DIVIDED OVER WHAT THAT POLICY SHOULD LOOK LIKE. STACEY JAMES, THE GOVERNOR SAYS SHE’S WORKING RIGHT NOW TO FIND A COMPROMISE THAT EVERYONE FEELS COMFORTABLE WITH. SHE SAYS SHE WANTS THAT BILL TO BE PASSED. SHE WANTS TO MAKE BIRTH CONTROL AVAILABLE WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION, CALLING IT, QUOTE, THE RIGHT THING TO DO. MY GOAL IS TO GET IT ACROSS THE FINISH LINE. AND SO WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SIT DOWN WITH LAWMAKERS AND FIND WHAT THAT COMPROMISE LOOKS LIKE. ANOTHER BIG THING WE HEARD REYNOLDS TALK ABOUT TODAY, SHE WEIGHED IN ON THE POSSIBLE INDICTMENT OF FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP CALLING IT, QUOTE, A POLITICALLY CHARGED PROSECUTE. WHEN YOU HAVE AN OVERACT, D.A. WHO IS HELL BENT ON TAKING OUT A REPUBLICAN FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. AND I THINK IT’S RIDICULOUS. OVER THE WEEKEND, THE FORMER PRESIDENT PREDICTED HE’D BE ARRESTED TODAY OVER ALLEGATIONS OF HUSH MONEY PAYMENTS. BUT SO FAR, THAT PREDICTION H
