Rossen Reports: New Google Flights feature will tell you when to book to save money
It's the age-old question we all ask ourselves when we’re planning travel: Should I book my flight now or later?
Now, there's a new tool that could solve that problem for you. Google Flights is unveiling a new feature that will save you money by letting you know if it's the right time to book the flight you're looking at, based on its historical flight data.
After you've typed in your destination and the dates you're traveling, it will tell you if prices are high, low, or typical at the moment. Above that, it could tell you when the cheapest times to book will be.
For example, we looked at a flight from Boston to Sacramento in March – and Google Flights suggested booking between Nov. 30 and Feb. 28 for cheaper tickets.
Google Flights also does price tracking and will send you an alert when the flight you're looking into goes down in price. Google Flights also has a price-guarantee tool that will refund you if the ticket goes down in price after you’ve booked (through Google Flights).

- Cancun
- Miami / Fort Lauderdale
- London
- New York
- Tokyo
- San Juan
- Honolulu
- Orlando
- Paris
- Los Angeles
Travel experts say the best time to book flights for Christmas vacations is around early October.
