A 6-year-old girl nearly drowned while on vacation with her family, and her mother's warning about the frightening incident is going viral.
In a that has now been shared more than 100,000 times, Alex Morgan wrote that she hopes she can save lives through sharing her experience.
While vacationing on Lanzarote, an island in the Canaries, Alex Morgan's family, including 6-year-old daughter Darcey, decided to take a dip in the hotel swimming pool.
While Darcey was splashing around in the water, something horrible happened.
"Darcey was swimming underwater when her hair got sucked into the filter that operates a waterfall in the swimming pool. Her hair was stuck and she was unable to get up to the surface. She was kept under the water for over 2 minutes," her mother wrote.
Darcey had to be given CPR after being rescued by from the pool by good Samaritans.
"Some incredibly brave people saved our little girl's life that day. Her hair was pulled and pulled before it was ripped," she wrote. "This was the worst day of our lives. We are still suffering to come to terms with it all now but also feel incredibly lucky to still have our beautiful, brave little girl."
After X-rays, tests and being kept under close observation, Darcey was deemed well enough to be released from the hospital.
Morgan claimed that hotel management "showed no respect and dealt with the matter poorly."
She also said other people had told her that the filter had previously been reported to staff after a little boy's swimming trucks were sucked into the device just days earlier.
First Choice, the travel company the Morgan family booked their vacation through, told the family that it would investigate the incident.
A spokesperson for First Choice told that it had taken "immediate action" to resolve the issue and had been in contact with the Morgan family to "update and reassure them on the steps we have taken."
