Family says their Whirlpool refrigerator exploded inside their home
A Florida family has many questions after their new refrigerator exploded inside their home over the weekend.
Mark Ligondie said he woke up to a bang on Saturday.
Only a frame of the fridge was left after the explosion, . The force of the blast was so strong that it damaged several rooms of the West Palm Beach home, cracking the ceiling and nearby walls, causing damage to a door and breaking a window.
“It expanded and expanded so much it bent the metal of the stove,” Ligondie told WPTV.
The explosion was so loud that a neighbor heard the noise and ran inside the home to help the family.
No one was hurt in the incident.
"Whirlpool is committed to providing safe products for consumers. We are working quickly to look into this incident,” the company said in a statement to WPTV.
The family said their Whirlpool refrigerator was about 4 months old.
