Porridge is nutritious, warming and properly fills you up in the morning. But, according to the world's oldest family, it's not just a tasty treat - it can actually help you live longer.
The Donnelly family are officially the oldest family in the world with the 13 siblings having an overall collective age of 1,075 years.
The family have lived a healthy outdoors life, growing up on a farm in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Local produce has been a staple of their diet, including homegrown vegetables, fruit and free-range eggs and meat.
But the one food they praise more than any for boosting the longevity of their lives is porridge. They believe that eating one portion twice a day is the key to a longer life.
"We've always followed daddy's habit of a nice warm bite before sleep," 72-year-old Joe Donnelly told . "Porridge at around 10 p.m., then again for breakfast at 7 a.m. Cooked oats, milk, a spot of apple jam on top."
The 13 siblings, aged between 72 and 93, say it's porridge that has regulated their blood pressure and cholesterol, fought off diabetes and kept them feeling fit. Although their wholesome diet of unprocessed foods and little alcohol has certainly contributed.
