PAYING OFF. WHEN IT CAME TO APPLYING FOR COLLEGE, DEMETRIUS PROCESS CAST HIS NET WIDE. I KIND OF WENT A LITTLE CRAZY WITH MY COLLEGE, UM, WITH MY COLLEGE APPLICATION. SO I DID APPLY THE 29 SCHOOLS. YES, SO I DID. THAT WAS A LOT OF ESSAYS, A LOT OF SUPPLEMENTALS THAT I HAD TO WRITE. BUT IT TURNED OUT PRETTY WELL. PRETTY WELL AS AN UNDER STATEMENT. ONE BY ONE, THE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS STARTED ROLLING IN. NO WAY. I JUST KIND OF LIKELY LATER FROM COLUMBIA, DEMETRIUS OPENED ALL OF HIS LETTERS WITH HIS FAMILY. HE GOT INTO 28 OF THE 29 SCHOOLS HE APPLIED TO INCLUDE SEVEN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS. HE ALSO RECEIVED ENOUGH SCHOLARSHIP MONEY TO GO TO COLLEGE FOR FREE. WE WERE REALLY, REALLY SHOCKED. THERE WAS A REALLY SOME REAL MOMENT. WE ALL STARTED CRYING ON THE PHONE. IT WAS KIND OF KIND OF CRAZY, BUT IT WAS REALLY, REALLY SHOCKING. BUT DEMETRIUS SAYS HIS SUCCESS IS NOT BY ACCIDENT. IT’S A RESULT OF HARD WORK. I DID WORK HARD HERE AT THE LANEY. I TOOK A LOT OF APPS, A LOT OF EXTRACURRICULARS. DEMETRIUS IS THE PRESIDENT OF MOCK TRIAL ROW KAPPA HONOR SOCIETY AND UNICEF. HE’S ALSO CO-PRESIDENT OF TEENS AGAINST TRAFFICKING. DESPITE HIS BUSY SCHEDULE, HIS GRADES NEVER SUFFERED. HE’S GRADUATING WITH A 3.9 GPA. IT’S ADVICE TO OTHER STUDENTS. I WOULD DEFINITELY SAY DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF. I WANT TO SAY DEFINITELY TRY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO START EARLY IN HIGH SCHOOL SO THAT YOU CAN KIND OF BUILD YOUR RESUME AND YOUR APPLICATION FOR THE COLLEGES. DEFINITELY. NOW, DEMETRIUS HAS LOTS OF OPTIONS ON THE TABLE FOR COLLEGE. HE’S NARROWED DOWN HIS TOP FOUR YALE, PRINCETON, COLUMBIA AND STANFORD. ALINA, TO BE PROUD OF PROOF THAT HARD WORK PAYS OFF. DEFINITELY JUST FEELING A LOT OF GRATITUDE AND VERY GRATEFUL. DEMETRIUS HAS TO PICK A SCHOOL BY MAY 1ST, SO IT’S GETTING DOWN TO THE WIRE. HE SAYS WHEREVER HE GOES, HE’D LIKE TO STUDY POLITICAL SCIENCE AND GO ON TO BECOME EITHER A LAWYER OR A POLITICIAN. ANTH
