Sheriff's deputies in Mesa County, Colorado, say a dog "found herself in a ruff situation" after falling over 100 feet into a canyon at the Colorado National Monument.The Mesa County Sheriff's Office posted a video of the dog's rescue on social media and said the pup was OK after the incident. "This sweet dog and her owner were visiting the National Monument from out of town when they pulled over to take in the view," the sheriff's office said, adding that her owner opened the door and the dog excitedly lept out of the vehicle and "dashed towards the ledge.""Unfortunately, she didn’t understand the concept of the canyon and found herself falling over 100 feet off the edge before landing on a shelf," the sheriff's office said.According to the National Park Service, The Colorado National Monument, located near Grand Junction, Colorado, preserves 32 miles of the Colorado Plateau and it features "towering monoliths within a vast plateau and canyon panorama."A sheriff's deputy attempted to rescue the dog using a dogcatching pole, but she was too far down in the canyon. So, the Mesa County Search & Rescue’s ropes team answered the distress call and rescued the scared pup, as can be seen in the video."Despite her long fall, the dog was up and walking once her rescuers got her over the ledge," the sheriff's office said.According to officials, the dog's owner took it to an emergency veterinarian right after she was rescued. The veterinarian said the dog suffered minor scrapes and bruises but had no broken bones or internal injuries."If dogs have nine lives like cats, she definitely used one in her adventure on the Monument, but we are so grateful to have an amazing Search & Rescue team ready to spring into action for all who need it," the sheriff's office said.In a separate Facebook post, Mesa County Search & Rescue said the rescue was made possible "thanks to the swift coordination between our Mesa County Search and Rescue team, Colorado National Monument park rangers, and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office."The Mesa County Search & Rescue said the dog appeared to be "happy and in good spirits" upon being rescued and said that "the dog’s owner expressed immense relief and joy upon being reunited with their pet.""We are proud of the efforts that made this successful rescue possible and are thrilled to see the pup safely back in the arms of its owner," Mesa County Search & Rescue said.See the rescue in the video above.
