There's no better way to show your love for your pooch than to give them a prime spot on your pumpkin this October. The trend became popular in 2017 when Pomeranian owner Andy Manoloff from Elkhart, Indiana, uploaded a YouTube video of how, using just an Xacto knife, he transformed a pumpkin into a portrait of his dog, Sophie. "She's been through everything with me, and I just thought it'd be fun to see her on one of my pumpkins," Manoloff told CountryLiving.com.While a dog-o'-lantern like this can require anywhere from a couple to 20 hours of work, the final result will make any animal lover's heart swell. And even though Manoloff is clearly a natural at pumpkin portraits, he said anyone can get in on the fun. "Start simple and then ramp it up from there," he advised. Check out these creations from other pet parents for more ideas. To create a gourd portrait, you'll want to treat it like any other jack-o'-lantern carving and start by scooping out the pumpkins seeds and flesh. Then, you can follow Manoloff 's lead and carve a detailed sketch of your pet, or achieve a similar look by using a template featuring your dog's breed. You can find easy-to-use stencils of various breeds including golden retrievers, beagles, huskies and more at PedigreeFoundation.org. (h/t Bored Panda)
