Doctor credits vaccine with saving her life after contracting delta variant
A Florida doctor, who was vaccinated, believes the COVID-19 vaccine helped save her life.
Dr. Suzan Zimmer is a family physician at Midway Primary Care in Fort Pierce. Zimmer has been practicing in the area since 1996.
She's back at work now, but three weeks ago she was out battling COVID-19. She said she had a very bad headache and aches but didn't have to be admitted to the hospital.
"I'm convinced if I had not been vaccinated I wouldn't be standing here talking to you right now," Zimmer said.
Zimmer recovered from the delta variant.
"I had a vaccine back in December and then my second shot mid-January. I've been very diligent about protecting myself and my patients. We've been wearing masks every day in the office, but somehow I got infected with that variant," she said.
Zimmer doesn't know for sure where she caught the virus.
"I honestly don't think I got it here at the office. I think I got it out and about."
She continues to explain to her patients why they should get vaccinated, but she said some are afraid.
She hopes her experience will show them why they should get the shot.
"Yes I had the COVID delta variant but again I'm sure that had I not had it I would have been very sick, in the hospital or could have even died," Zimmer said.
