Do you ship packages during the holiday season? Plan to pay more this year
If you’re planning on shipping gifts this holiday season, you might want to increase your budget.
UPS announced its plan to hike prices for the 2017 holiday season for some domestic packages.
The “peak surcharges” are expected to be in effect during November and December.
Packages delivered to a residential area
Packages included in the price increase are those that are shipped to homes or a business operating out of a home.
Shipping charges will increase during the dates listed below.
For UPS “Next day Air Early,” “Next Day Air” and “Next Day Air Saver” the peak surcharge dates are Dec. 17 through 23 with an increase of $.81.
For the same dates UPS “2nd Day Air AM,” “2nd Day Air” and “3-Day Select” will increase $.97.
The peak surcharges for UPS “Ground Shipping” are planned for the following times:
Nov. 19 through Dec. 2 - $.27
Dec. 17 through 23 - $.27
Large packages
The peak surcharge will apply to packages with length plus girth of (2 x width and 2 x length) combined over 130 inches. Below are the set prices and dates for peak surcharges with larger packages.
Nov. 19 through Dec. 23 - $24
Packages that exceed the maximum limits
The peak surcharge will apply to packages with an actual weight of more than 150 pounds, ones that exceed 108 inches in length or packages that exceed a total of 165 inches in length plus girth (2 x width) + (2 x height) combined.
