You might think you know everything there is to know about keeping your home clean and tidy –but what if we told you that you've probably been forgetting to tackle some seriously dirty spots in your house?According to the cleaning experts over at the Good Housekeeping Institute, there are several areas in every household that you're almost definitely missing out while doing the housework – but really, really need to clean, pronto. The good news? While the GHI says these spots are likely to be 'germ-ridden', they should be easy enough to deal with quickly."These are the kind of cleaning jobs that you can do while you're waiting around for food to cook and kettles to boil," they say.Here are the nine areas you're overlooking:1. In between appliances – particularly between the cooker or fridge and your kitchen worktops. 2. The TV remote – especially if it's been sitting on the floor or you regularly eat food in front of the telly. 3. Fridge drawers and shelves – the salad drawer can get 'pretty nasty', they say.4. The top of things – from light fixtures to cupboards and the mouldings around doors. 5. The washing machine – if you've been running your machine at low temperatures, it can easily become a breeding ground for bacteria. 6. Reusable shopping bags – you should go through the washing machine regularly to remove lingering food bacteria, apparently. 7. Brooms and brushes – swish the broom head around in warm, soapy water, or vacuum with a handheld attachment8. Keyboards– it turns out the average keyboard can harbour up to 10 million bacteria.9.
