CONTACT THE MPD TRAFFIC UNIT. NEW. AT NOON, THE DES MOINES CITY COUNCIL VOTED THIS MORNING TO KEEP THE CITY’S PROPERTY TAX RATE THE SAME. IT WILL STAY AT $16.61 PER EVERY $1,000 OF TAXABLE PROPERTY. THIS HAS BEEN THE RATE SINCE 2021. PROPERTY TAX REVENUE FUNDS, FUNDS, SCHOOLS, POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS, ROAD MAINTENANCE AND SEWERS. THOSE AT THE MEETING THIS MORNING HAD MIXED EMOTIONS. RIGHT NOW. MY MORTGAGE I AM PAYING MORE IN PROPERTY TAXES THAN I AM ON THE PRINCIPAL OF MY MORTGAGE, AND I’VE LIVED THERE SINCE 2016. I DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND IT. TAXPAYERS CONSTANTLY ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT PROPERTY TAXES. ON THE ONE HAND, WE WANT THE SERVICES. ON THE OTHER HAND, WE DON’T WANT TO PAY FOR THEM. CITY LEADERS WILL MEET TONIGHT TO SET A TIME TO APPROV

The Des Moines City Council voted Monday morning to keep the city's property tax rate the same.
The tax rate will stay at $16.61 per every $1,000 of taxable property. This has been the rate since 2021.
