David Spade is sharing fond memories of his sister-in-law Kate Spade for the first time since the famed less than two months ago.
The actor appeared on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday to promote his new Netflix comedy, "Father of the Year," and his autobiographical audiobook, "A Polaroid Guy in a Snapchat World," but took a few minutes to talk about how the Spade family is dealing with her untimely passing.
“(We're doing) as good as we can,” he said. “It’s been very tough. Obviously. It is very sweet that everyone came out of the woodwork. She really made an impact.”
David then shared a sweet story about how his exes would dress up to try to impress the iconic fashion designer, whom he lovingly refers to as Katy.
“I remember when we used to hang out, it’s funny because every girl I was with or anyone around, anyone that knew they would see Katy, would dress differently,” he said. “They would bring their A-game. It was very sweet. They’d be like, 'Is Katy coming?' And if (she was) then it was a whole new wardrobe.”
“She was such a beautiful, lovely, great spirit that obviously will be missed,” David continued. “I'll start bawling, but thank you for saying something.”
On June 5, the day of Kate's death, David shared a sweet tribute on Instagram, writing, "Fuzzy picture but i love it. Kate and I during Christmas family photos. We had so much fun that day. She was so sharp and quick on her feet. She could make me laugh so hard. I still cant believe it."
A week later, David donated $100,000 to a mental health organization in Kate's honor, reports. Kate was married to David's brother Andy Spade for 24 years, and the couple have a 13-year-old daughter named Frances Beatrix Spade.
Following Kate's death, her , “We are all devastated by today’s tragedy. We loved Kate dearly and will miss her terribly. We would ask that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this very difficult time.”
